Mandarin Tramples Atlantic Coast to Kickoff the Regular Season

Mandarin- Junior Quarterback Carson Beck tossed three touchdowns to lead the Mandarin Mustangs over the Atlantic Stingrays 39-7 on Thursday night. The scoring started when running-back Terrell Jennings bust through the Stingray defense for a 30 yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Jennings is a big back who looks to have a big season for Mandarin, and he started it with a big bang with the run.

Trailing 6-0 and with the offense struggling, the Stingray defense was forced to make a play and they did. Defensive back Demetrius Byrd came away with an interception of Beck in endzone to thwart a potential score for the Mustangs. The turnover looked to give the Atlantic Coast offense life, yet instead of turning the opportunity into points they gave the ball back to Mandarin thanks to an interception by #1 Demario Douglas. However Mandarin was unable to convert the turnover into points when they missed a field goal as the score remained 6-0 in the second quarter.

With both offenses in neutral, one of the defenses  was charged with driving the field position effort. Mandarin’s defense struck first by Jayvon Fulton intercepted the pass and returned it to the five yard line of Atlantic Coast. Fulton would get two interceptions on the evening. This time the Mustangs would make Coast pay when Cameron Daniels ran into the endzone for the touchdown giving Mandarin a 12-0 lead.

After capitalizing on the run early on, in the second half Mandarin went to the air as Beck found Douglas for a 50 yard bomb to increase the Mustang lead. Darien Oxedine would catch the second Beck touchdown pass in the back corner of the endzone to make the score 32-0. A Richard Thomas interception ended the scoring for Mandarin at 39.  Markiel Ross would salvage the shutout for Atlantic Coast wit ha touchdown run in the fourth, but Mandarin would stampede to victory, improving to 1-0 on the season.
