Trinity Christian- Trinity Christian defeated Braden River 27-22 on Friday night. Trinity Christian was led by running back Marcus Crowley, who rushed for 218 yards and 3 touchdowns. Trinity was also led in receiving by wide receiver Isaiah Washington’s 2 catches for 10 yards. Quarterback Jacory Jordan led Trinity in passing with 5 completions on 12 attempts for 47 yards.
Both teams came into the game hyped up for the contest, however: Braden River would strike first. After winning the coin toss, Braden River would score first when #6 Brian Battie powered his way to an 8 yard touchdown run. The Trinity crowd gasped in dismay as the score instantly shot to 7-0. Braden River’s confidence could be felt simmering across the field all the way to the Pirate’s sideline. Braden River’s defense dominated the entire first quarter immobilizing Trinity’s offensive attempts. The second quarter began with the essence of Braden’s River’s appetite for an easy victory. Battie scored his second touchdown on a 60 yard run allowing Braden River a 14-0 lead over Trinity.
Trinity wouldn’t remain scoreless long, as Marcus Crowley thrilled the crowd with a 57 yard touchdown run as Michael Jackson’s, ‘Thriller’ played over the PA system. The first half ended with Braden River maintaining a 14-6 lead over Trinity. In the third quarter Braden River scores a touchdown but it was called back due to illegal procedure. The score remained 14-6. Braden River’s defense would step up by getting a safety when the ball hiked over Trinity quarterback’s head and through the end zone. The score was 16-6 Braden River in the third quarter.
Trinity would mount an amazing comeback, spearheaded by a 95 yard touchdown run by Marcus Crowley. The score was 16-13 Braden River. Trinity Christian’s defense would stop Braden River, allowing Kaleb Killian to score on a 33 yard touchdown. The score was 20-16 Trinity Christian at the end of the third quarter.
Braden River’s offense was stagnated by Trinity Christian’s defense at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Trinity Christian’s Marcus Crowley delivered a mind boggling 33 yard touchdown right through Braden River’s defense, his third of the night. The score was 27-16 Trinity Christian. Braden River fired back when Clyde Townsend ran a 64 yard run with less than three minutes in the fourth. The score is 27-22 Trinity Christian. An exciting game set for a fantastic finish would end in an unexpected manor. Braden River’s Roger Whobrey would suffer a serious injury during the game. Play was stopped for several minutes as both teams kneeled in prayer. Eventually, both Trinity Christian and Braden River decided to end the game with less than two minutes remaining.
Trinity Christian improved to 1-0 on the season, while Braden River fwll to 0-1. Trinity hosts Ribault next week hoping to improve to 2-0.
