It was opening week for Clay County Junior High’s Tuesday afternoon and night, and for all 8 of the North East Florida Athletic Conference (NEFAC) members.
A rematch of the 2017 Northeast Florida Athletic Conference championship games kicked off the season with runner-up Orange Park traveling to champion Wilkinson in an afternoon battle. Other opening games were Bradford traveling to Lake Butler, Baker County at Lake Asbury, Lakeside at University Christian and Oakleaf at Green Cove.
With Keystone Heights dropping out the conference and the addition of Baker County, the road to the conference title just got a lot harder as the Bobcats are a solid program and will give everyone a tough challenge.
The divisions were shaken up after the addition of Baker County as the Bobcats were placed in the North with Lakeside, Orange Park and Oakleaf; while the South Division is now Bradford, Lake Asbury, Wilkinson and Green Cove.
The Bobcats quickly made a huge statement with a huge road win over Lake Asbury and immediately have the county on notice they will be a factor in the playoff race.
