OAKLEAF – Ever have one of those days, you just wish you could roll back into bed and hit the snooze button again and just do the whole day over again.

Orange Park got off the bus at Oakleaf and should have turned right back around and went home after a 49-6 loss to host Oakleaf  in the Dungeon Tuesday night.

Eight plays into the game, Oakleaf shockingly already had a 14-0 lead, a sign of bad things to come.

Drew Ammon hit Jeremiah Shack on a 55 yard touchdown reception on a nice play action pass for a quick 7-0 lead just three plays into the game less than a minute into the game.

Four plays later, Taylor Bradshaw picked off a Elijah Craggete pass and nearly returned it back for a score before being tackled at the 4-yard line. Devin Outlaw followed that up with a four yard score and 14-0 lead just eight plays into the game.

After a quick three and out by the Yellow Jackets defense, the offense went right back to work.

Bradshaw moved to offense and rumbled 17 yards down to the 18 and Ammon broke free for a 8 yard keeper to set up Outlaw’s 10 yard score out of the wildcat formation and 21-0 lead with 2:28 left in the first.

Nothing was going right for Orange Park and when they finally made a big play of course it was called back or something bad happened.

Mustathfa Marshall returned the ensuing kickoff and looked well on his way to a 80 yard kickoff return for a score, but as he crossed the 45 yard line Caleb White ran him down and knocked the ball loose from behind him and recovered it.

Ammon hit Outlaw for an apparent 57 yard score but it was called back for a block in the back, the play still picked up 18 yards. Two plays later, Outlaw scored his third touchdown of the first quarter for a 29-0 lead with 1:46 left in the first quarter.

Vdlamir Rosa picked off Craggete near midfield and returned the pick all the way back to the end zone for a  41 yard score and 35-0 lead just 18 seconds later.

After another quick three and out, Trevon Smith made the Wildcats pay taking consecutive handoffs on the ensuing drive before capping the drive with a 4 yard score and 42-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Following the score, both coaches met with the officials and head referee and agree to a running clock the rest of the game to hurry the game up.

Just before half, Craigette found Marshall open for a 25 yard completion, the first first down for the Wildcats in the game. The momentum was short lived as Myrick Durrionte’ appeared to pick up their second first down two plays later but lost the handle on the ball after catching it and into the hands of Jackets player Jordan Nesby.

As the third quarter was winding down, tailback Brenden Cook brought the crowd to its feet with an electrifying 51 yard touchdown reception from Sherrard Adams. Cook hauled in the short reception and ran right into a host of Wildcat defenders along the right side of the field, then cut across the other side of the field before find daylight down the left sideline racing untouched the final 50 yards for the score.

One particular unit that was extremely busy was the Oakleaf cheerleaders who alternated doing pushup and or jumping jacks for every Yellow Jackets score. In over a hour and half span, the Jacket cheerleaders accumulated a combination of 148 pushups and jumping jacks.

Trailing 49-0 in the closing minutes, Orange Park finally put together a scoring drive to get on the scoreboard and nullify the shut out.

Oakleaf (2-0) (1-0) opens the North Division play with the win to take early control of the division, while Orange Park (0-2) (0-1) falls behind. The Jackets will host defending county champions Wilkinson next Tuesday, while the Wildcats will host Lake Asbury next week.

Lake Asbury 16, Wilkinson 0

A week after suffering a tough loss to Baker County last week, the Tigers got back on winning track with a shut out win over defending county champion Wilkinson on the road. More importantly the win allows the Tigers to regain the War of the Oar trophy after losing it last year.

Baker County 40, Lakeside 6

Not even a change of location could stop the Baker County Bobcats from pummeling Lakeside 40-6 at Ridgeview High Wednesday night.

After taking on several inches of rain last night, the game was moved from Maclenny to Orange Park to make sure the game would still be played.

The Bobcats (2-0, 1-0) racked up over 300 yards rushing and about 60 yards passing to take control of the game and win their North Division opener easily.

Bradford County 20, Green Cove 8

Not even Mother Nature could rain on host Bradford County parade as the Hurricanes easily handed Green Cove 20-8 Wednesday night at David Hurse Stadium.

A day after the game was originally scheduled to play Tuesday, the Hurricanes (2-0, 1-0) opened up a Tropical Depression on the visiting Cougars (0-2, 0-1) in the South Division opener for both teams.
