New Jack City: Jackson Takes Over Game Late To Defeat Wolfson

Wolfson HS- Jackson’s Jajuan Turner rushed for 146 yards and 4 touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter to lead the Tigers to a 34 -15 victory over Wolfson. The Tigers improve to 3-2 on the short season, the first time they’ve started the season with three wins since 2010. It’s a new culture that second year Head Coach Antoine Atwater has created on Main Street, which man are dubbing ” Nightmares on Main Street”. Said Atwater of his team “I’m just trying to bring a swagger back to the program; I played at Raines and it was always tough playing Jackson back in the day, so I just want to bring that swagger back”. Swagger is something his players possessed against Wolfson, however the Wolfpack would make them earn the victory.

After Jajuan Turner opened up the scoring on the evening with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter, Wolfson would respond with two rushing touchdowns of their own, going ahead in the game 15-6 in the second quarter. Wolfson’s  Raynard Jones would score a touchdown for the Wolfpack as well as Clyde Holland to go up in the game. Jones and Holland are two of just 26 players that Wolfson has on the team. They play both ways and contribute in many ways to the team, which is why Wolfson (1-4) has a good chance to have one of their best seasons since 2013 when that team won 2 games. To do so, they’ll need to figure out how to close out games, something they failed to do against Jackson.

Turner would score before the half on a 6 yard touchdown run to tighten the score to 15-12, however Wolfson went into halftime with the lead. The game saw a scoreless 3rd quarter where the defenses stood up. Wolfson’s 6’2 freshman safety Jaleel Armstrong gained an interception for the Wolfpack to stop a Jackson drive. While Jackson’s Jajuan Turner forced a fumble at the 1 yard line to prevent Wolfson from scoring.

The 4th quarter saw Wolfson fade and Jackson catch fire as the Tigers would score 22 unanswered points. Turner would score his last two rushing touchdowns a short run from the 6 yard line and another from 22 yards out to blow the game open 26-15. Jackson running back Rashad Levy would close out the game with a rushing touchdown capping his 136 yard rushing night as Jackson prevailed 34-15.

Wolfson (1-4) will face Terry Parker (0-4) next, while Jackson goes into the bye week and will face Parker on October 5th hopefully with one of their best players Artis Maddox on the field. Maddox missed the Wolfson game due to an injury, but has two weeks to heal before their next contest.  It’s a great first half of the season for Jackson going 3-2. It’s certainly a new Jackson team, with a new Jackson swagger.
