Fletcher Volleyball Defeats Atlantic Coast Capturing The Gateway Conference Championship

Mandarin- The Fletcher Senators would continue their four year reign by winning the Gateway Volleyball Conference championship this past Thursday. The series of events leading to the Gateway Volleyball Conference Championship finals would shock, wow and allowing the crowds to witness jaw dropping moments. Fletcher High has dominated the Gateway Volleyball Conference Tournament for three consecutive years shutting down all possibilities of a new champion. Coach Mark McGiveron would march his Lady Senators into the Mandarin High School Gym on Thursday focused, determined and expectant to maintain their hard earned title. 

The tournament  would kick off to a start filled with zest and a new energy when Atlantic Coast surprisingly pulled off an upset by defeating Mandarin 3-2 to gain a spot in the Gateway Volleyball Conference Finals. Coach Meshia Sudiene would confidently lead her small team to sting the Mustangs with their quick strike action. Atlantic Coast Senior and playmaker Kennedy Coleman worked diligently with fellow teammates to secure the Stingray’s shot at a Gateway Volleyball conference title.

The Senators warmed up by battling the number one ranked Stanton Blue Devils. The nail biting game would place the crowd’s expectations into the hands of fate.  Fletcher would ultimately defeat Stanton in a series of five sets to obtain a 3-2 win. The challenging victory would allow the Senators to advance to the Finals to face Atlantic Coast.

Fletcher would unexpectedly match up against Atlantic Coast to compete against one another for the third time this season. Plagued by the grueling physical exhaustion from the prior Stanton five match game, Fletcher proceeded to face the uphill battle to maintain the Gateway Conference Volleyball Championship. The Senators would shine like diamonds dominating the first two matches. However, Atlantic Coast would retaliate dominating wins in the next two matches. Ultimately, sensational sophomore Azra Mulaic would lead the Senators to a 3-2 show stopping win over Atlantic Coast.

The Senators displayed endurance and sheer determination to play ten straight matches back to back, resulting in the 4-peat. In the end, Fletcher proved that they had what it takes to obtain and maintain the number one spot in the county. They’ll face Atlantic Coast for the fourth time this year, in the District Conference tournament this week.
