MANDARIN – Christ’s Church Academy left off where they began their state title run last year with a win at home over Rocky Bayou.
Only this time there was no sweep as Christ Church walked away from its home gym with a hard fought 3-1 win over the Knights.
Rocky Bayou (23-3) won the first set 25-15 to take a 1-0 lead in the best of five match, however Christ’s Church came out fighting in the second set to take a 12-5 early lead before tying the match with a 25-17 win.

Tied at 8-8 in the third set, the Eagles soared ahead to take a 16-10 lead, before pulling away 25-14 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Ahead 2-1 in the match and one win away from advancing to the second round, Christ’s Church didn’t let up, jumping out to a 22-4 lead before pulling away 25-6 to win the match.
Ahead 24-6 at match point, Julia Mangum sent a kill over the net and in between two Knight defenders to clinch the match.

Christ’s Church (21-6) hosts St. Johns Paul II, a 3-0 winner over St. Johns Country Day last night in Tallahassee, in the Elite 8 Oct. 30 in Class 3A at the Eagles Nest.
The night started with 8 area teams by the end of the night, 6 moved on to play in the Elite 8.
Providence (19-9) swept Tallahassee Maclay 3-0 to advance to the Elite 8 in Class 4A Oct. 30 and will host PK Yonge (7-8), a 3-0 winner over Trinity Christian.

In other games last night, Hilliard (18-5) held off Lafayette 3-1 and will host Bell (24-3), a 3-0 winner over Union County last night, Oct. 30 in the Elite 8 of the Class 1A playoffs.
Beaches Chapel (14-4) got its first ever playoff win in school history with a 3-2 win over Aucilla Christian, the Lions will travel to Eagle’s View (19-9), a 3-0 winner over Community Christian, Oct. 30 in the Elite 8 of the Class 2A playoffs.
Harvest Community (21-9) won 3-1 over St. John Lutheran, and will travel to Seven Rivers Christian (19-7), a 3-0 winner over Cornerstone Christian, in the Elite 8 of the Class 2A playoffs.
