Kenny Clips Episcopal’s Wings while spoiling homecoming too

SOUTHSIDE – The Bishop Kenny Crusaders embarked upon Pajcic-Hunt Field and easily defeated its rival the Episcopal Eagles 49-7 on Friday night. Senior wide receiver Jonathan Jones led the Crusaders with three touchdowns, while seniors Caniem Maxwell, Cade Sams ,Bryce Mullenix and Nzuri Charles would also score touchdowns for the Crusaders.

The Eagles soared onto the field filled with momentum along with the support of an enthusiastic homecoming crowd eagerly cheering the team on in support of a win. The Crusaders silently marched onto Pajcic-Hunt Field arm and arm in pairs while the moon light would glisten onto their dark helmets. After a unified prayer, both teams would collide into a battle only fit for one winner.

Jones would waste no time scoring the first touchdown off of a pass from junior quarterback George Farmand at the beginning of the first quarter to give the Crusaders an early 7-0 lead. Breaking through Episcopal’s defense, Mullenix would score the second touchdown in the first quarter bringing the first quarter to an end at 14-0 with Bishop Kenny well ahead.

The Crusaders would set the atmosphere and the tone of the second quarter with a series of dominant power packed plays. Sams would score a touchdown putting BK ahead 21-0 in the second quarter. After a total shutdown of Episcopal’s offense, Bishop Kenny would later pass the torch to Maxwell, who would score a touchdown putting Kenny ahead 28-0 at the half.

In lieu of the halftime festivities, Episcopal would come back in the second half of the game unified and eager for revenge. Episcopal’s Davis Ellis scored a touchdown at the beginning of the third quarter allowing the Eagles to finally get on the scoreboard cutting the lead to 28-7 early in the third.

But the small triumph would be short and expeditiously halted by the Crusaders when Jonathan Jones would score his second touchdown for the evening increasing the score to 35-7 in the third.

The Episcopal crowd which previously resonated with celebratory music, followed by the essence of fresh popped popcorn and loud cheers now only reciprocated uncertainty. The Eagles defense would hold off the Crusaders defense the remainder of the third quarter keeping Kenny off the scoreboard the remainder of the quarter.

The fourth quarter began when sparks flew across the field as Jones would score his third touchdown off of a pass from Farmland putting Kenny ahead 42-7 in the fourth.

An interception by Davis Ellis would allow Bishop Kenny to gain control of the ball once again. The exchange of power would allow  Charles to cap the scoring with a touchdown to finalize a 49-7 win over Episcopal.
