Highlands Headed to the Ship Defeating Mandarin 32-0

First Coast High School- Congratulations to the Highlands Middle School Football Team, on their 32-0 victory over Mandarin Middle, in the first round of the Duval County Middle School Playoffs. Highlands came into the game undefeated and winners of the North division for the first time, while Mandarin represented the South division for the second time in six years.

The game was close in the first quarter as the Hawks used a ball control run game to drive the ball down the field. It resulted in a scoreless first quarter. However, seconds into the second quarter, the Highland’s defense would secure an interception turning the tide quickly in the game.

The interception would lead to 32 unanswered points by Highlands, including three touchdowns by #3 De’shy Beafort to propel Highlands to the win. The shutout was cemented by the wildcat defense, including play by defensive linemen Ricahrd Carswell. The defense held Mandarin to zero redzone opportunities on the night.

For a second year Head Coach, Coach Garvin has done a tremendous job with the program. He leads Highlands into the playoffs and championship for the first time in school history. With play makers at every position, and great coaching staff,  Highlands looks ready to make school history next week when they face Lake Shore for the Duval County Middle School Football Championship.
