Conquerors Snatch War Eagles Out of Playoffs; Sights Now Set On Bulldogs

WESTSIDE – Behind Marcus Crowley 203 yards and one touchdown, host Trinity Christian defeated Wakulla 28-12 to advance to the third round of the FHSAA 5A playoffs.
Isaiah Washington (2 catches for 87 yards), Malik Myers and Dreshawn Dawkins also had touchdowns for Trinity, while quarterback Jacory Jordan led Trinity in passing going 6 of 10 for 140 yards.

The evening began with Jacksonville temperatures at a record low of fifty degrees. The undefeated Conquerors would walk unto their home field to face the Wakulla War Eagles as the Wakulla  thunderous drum-line set the atmosphere in the stadium. The War Eagle’s Jaylon Worsham scored a touchdown with a little less than 6 minutes left in the first quarter erupting the Wakula sidelines and stands. Shockingly, Trinity would fail to score in the first quarter, their first time being held scoreless in the first quarter all season. The War Eagles defensed halted all attempts of a Conquerors first quarter touchdown run.

In the second quarter, the  tables would turn when Trinity’s Isaiah Washington scored a 44 yard touchdown run off of a pass from sophomore quarterback Jacory Jordan. The chilled yet cold Floridian weather would birth a chivalrous battle on the field with a tied score of 7-7 early in the second quarter.

Trinity’s defense would smite the War Eagles offense with huge tackles from William Tippens, Trevon McClain, Latrell Wade and Andrew Brown. Later,  Myers mesmerized the crowd when he scored a touchdown run at the end of the second quarter putting Trinity ahead 14-7 lead over Wakulla.

The third quarter kicked into gear when Wakulla would score off of a safety making it 14-9 Trinity. The War Eagles adrenaline would rise mid-way through the third quarter when Hunter Busen kicked a field goal allowing Wakulla to cut the lead to 14-12.

Trinity’s defense left no room for the War Eagles imagination in the fourth quarter. Disaster began to strike Wakulla’s offense when Trinity ‘s Lucius Lattimore tackled Wakulla’s Lamont Peterson attempt to gain a run. Subsequently , Hunter Busen would fail to make the field goal attempt for Wakulla keeping the score at 14-12. Trinity’s offense would trample through Wakulla’s defense when Isaiah Washington burst a 43 yard run for a big first down.

Marcus Crowley would have his say when he scored a touchdown propelling the score to 21-12, Trinity.  An impressive run by Jonathan Ealey would give way to a Trinity first down when he rushed 32 yards. Trinity’s Dreshawn Dawkins  would then breeze into the end zone , good for a Conqueror touchdown. Trinity ultimately defeated Wakulla 28-12.

Trinity will later face The Bolles Bulldogs in the third round of the Class 5A FHSAA playoffs. It’s a rematch of an epic battle in which Trinity narrowly defeated Bolles in a three overtime thriller 24-21. This year’s playoff match is gearing up to be another great one. Trinity defeated Bolles earlier this year 41-13.
