Raines Sweeps “Pass” Fernandina and Lee to Remain Undefeated

NORTHSIDE – The Raines Lady Vikings (9-0) defeated the Fernandina Lady Pirates 64-36 Monday evening to remain undefeated on the season. Raines guard Ahliah Brown led the Lady Vikings with 22 points, guard Nyla Allen contributed with 19 points, 6 assists and 3 steals and center Teyana Carswell chipped in with 10 points, 5 blocks and 16 rebounds.

Raines welcomed Fernandina Beach to the Douglas White gymnasium for a little Monday night action. With the dominance of the chilly temperatures outside, Mr. Freeze could not reckon with the Monday night blaze that would tread throughout the gymnasium. 

The Lady Vikings came prepared and ready to battle knowing exactly what was at stake. Both the Lady Vikings and the Lady Pirates would set the center stage with a dominating play-by-play performance with Raines leading 15-13 at the end of the first quarter. Fernandina Beach guard Talia Hamilton exhibited speed and superb ball handling skills, teaming up with Jayla Floyd to handle the Lady Vikings early on. 

Surprisingly, the second quarter would allow Raines to widen the gap by doubling the lead to 44-19 at the end of the first half. Raines displayed sheer dominance in the period, when Ahliah Brown danced around the court meticulously taking good shots and passing to teammates Naudia Pressley and Selah Reddick to get in on the scoring action.

Raines would consistently lead Fernandina throughout the entire third quarter while continuously scoring and shutting down the Pirates offense. Cartaleyiah Basnight hustled on the court with her fast moves, hustles and steals to keep the Lady Pirates on the scoreboard, however the Lady Vikings would continue to apply the pressure with a 58-24 lead after three and leave with a 64-36 win.

Raines head coach Julius Paden contributed the teams success in his trust in the Lady Vikings to complete the task set before them. The ladies plan to encompass the same tenacity for the remainder of the season, expectant of season ending trip to state in Lakeland.

Fernandina Beach came into the game ranked No. 4 in the latest Duval Sports rankings, while Raines was receiving votes in the latest poll. After their win over Fernandina Beach, Raines remained undefeated with a 62-29 win over Lee on Tuesday, to improve to 10-0 on the season. Raines returns to the court on Thursday to travel to Fletcher (4-4) for their next game before hosting Potters House (Dec 21) and Miami Norland (Dec 22).
