Middle School Boys Basketball: Landmark Rains Big Shots Over Southside

 

Southside Middle- Landmark defeated Southside Middle 41-24  on Tuesday in the kickoff of the Duval County Boys Basketball season. Cornelius Davis led the Seahawks with 14 points, Jacquell Jones chipped in 10 points and Jakaree Eley contributed 6 points for the win.

Southside broke out early in the first quarter outscoring Landmark 9-5. A. Hampton , K. Hayward , O. Constantine and G. Cardenas would hustle throughout the first quarter, landing shots over Landmark’s defense. Both teams would match up in the second quarter only scoring 5 points each to end the first half of the game with Southside leading 16-12.

Landmark head coach Maurice Crawley described the team’s first half performance was due to a “slow start”. 

 

The second half performance by Landmark would complete a three-sixty turn around as Davis and Jones administered an exchange of heat sinking shots. The crowd was wowed with a three point stunner from Davis, as  Landmark would capture the lead to end the third quarter 28-19.

Davis would once again continue his reign throughout the remainder of the fourth along with Coron Davis , Brian Thomas and Cornel Wheeler as Southside (1-0) outscored Landmark (0-1) 13-10 in the final quarter.
