It was another historic year for the First Coast area this past fall as the area crowned two state champions this season including back-to-back state titles for Raines and a first ever state title for Mandarin.
We honor those players that stood out in the 2018 season as we release our 2018 All-Area team over the next two weeks. Without further ado here is our 2018 All-Area Small School First Team Offensive team.
Small School All-Area team is comprised of Class 4A-Independent players from: Andrew Jackson, Raines, Fernandina Beach, West Nassau, Wolfson, Bradford, Interlachen, Keystone Heights, Baldwin, Episcopal, Providence, St. Joseph, Eagle’s View, North Florida Educational Institute, University Christian, Hilliard, Union County, Crescent City, Bishop Snyder, Cedar Creek, Christ’s Church, St. Johns Country Day and Florida Deaf.

First team
QB – Gavin Screws, Sr., Baldwin
The three year starter capped off an amazing career with the school’s first ever home playoff game accounting for 158 of 281 for 2,562 yards, 27 touchdowns and just six interceptions, 337 yards and three touchdowns on 67 carries and a 42.6 punting average with a long of 65 yards.
QB – Barron Coates, Sr., Raines
The transfer found a home at Raines and helped the Vikings to its second straight state title after completing 207 of 270 for 1,842 yards, 21 touchdowns and 4 interceptions along with 315 yards and 5 touchdowns on 44 carries for a total of 29 touchdowns.
QB – Ridge Jacobs, So., University Christian
First year starter put up huge numbers finishing with 2,056 yards, 24 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions. Expect big things from Jacobs the next two years as he continues to develop.
RB – Stanley Maxwell, Sr., Fort White
Maxwell was the go-to-guy for the Indians finishing with 1,324 yards and 19 touchdowns (7.4 y.p.c.) on 180 carries.
RB – Brandon Marshall, Sr., Raines
The senior had another monster year, becoming the school’s all-time leading rusher after finishing with 1,916 yards and 24 touchdowns on 242 carries.
RB – Jakobe Lavoile, Sr., Eagles View
The senior was the go to guy on offense for the Warriors finishing with 1,369 yards and 14 touchdowns (7.9 y.p.c.) on 149 carries to go along with 25 catches for 240 yards and 4 touchdowns (9.6 y.p.c.) for 29 total touchdowns on the season.
WR – Davis Ellis, So., Episcopal
Ellis had an unbelievable sophomore year catching 51 passes for 1,084 yards and 17 touchdowns (21.3 y.p.c.), while also accumulating four interceptions on defense, returning three of them for scores.
WR – Daivarus Thomas, Sr., Raines
As defenses keyed on stopping Brandon Marshall, Thomas became the other go to guy on offense with 42 catches for 518 yards (12.3 y.p.c.) and 9 touchdowns at receiver, while also tying a school record with 5 kick returns for touchdowns to finish with 14 total touchdowns on the season.
OL – Howard Ford, Sr., Raines
A huge reason why the Vikings racked up 5,485 yards of offense, including 3,234 yards rushing, was the play of the 6-4, 350 guard Ford.
OL – Marquell Holbert, Jr. Raines
A huge reason why the Vikings racked up 5,485 yards of offense, including 3,234 rushing, was the play of the 6-4, 350 tackle/guard Holbert.
OL – Howard Allen, Sr., Baldwin
A big reason for the Indians potent attack which accounted for 4,506 yards, was the play of the massive
6-5, 330 lineman Allen, who is being recruited by numerous Division I schools including Alabama.
OL – Declan Messer, Sr., Fort White
Highest graded lineman at 6-0, 255, was a key part of the success of the running of Stanley Maxwell and the protection of quarterback Dylan Blair.
Utility – AJ Mealer, Sr., Baldwin
Mealer did a little bit of everything for the Indians, accounting for 1,246 all-purpose yards including 690 and 9 touchdowns (7.6 y.p.c.) on 91 carries, 32 catches for 525 yards and 6 touchdowns (16.3 y.p.c.) to finish with 15 total touchdowns.
Utility – Artis Maddox, Jr., Jackson
Maddox didn’t leave the field hardly after accounting for 938 all-purpose yards and 12 total touchdowns including 32 of 63 for 433 yards and four touchdowns at quarterback, 40 carries for 337 yards and five touchdowns rushing, 7 catches for 161 yards and one touchdown receiving, while also contributing eight tackles and four interceptions on defense.
Kicker – Nicholas Sprague, Sr., Baldwin
Thanks to a high powered offense, Sprague got a lot of reps this year finishing 49 of 53 on point after attempts and 5 of 5 in field goals.
