Bishop Kenny huffs, puffs and blows out Ridgeview

SOUTHSIDE – The Bishop Kenny Lady Crusaders pulled off a colossal 67-16 win Thursday night over visiting Ridgeview in the Class 6A Regional Quarterfinals.

After the successful win Crusaders head coach Charlsea Clark stated, “Our team met their defensive goals by pressing the man and zone defenses. We also met our scoring goal of 65.” Clark added, “The last time Bishop Kenny visited the Final Four, I was only 2 years of age which was in 1992. As a team, we plan to visit the Final Four this year and hopefully head to Lakeland.”

Fabulous freshman Maddie Millar led the Lady Crusaders in scoring with a hefty 24 points, 4 assists and 4 steals; while sophomore sensation Jasmyne Roberts followed through with 18 points and 5 steals. Rose Dolmovich added 6 points while twin sister Rachel Dolmovich and teammate Janie Citrano both would chip in with 4 points each.

The Lady Crusaders would match up with the Ridgeview Lady Panthers (14-9) in a battle for a spot in the Regional Semifinals. Kenny would early on outscore Ridgeview throughout the first quarter by an eye opening 27-2.

The Panthers offense would be no match for the Lady Crusaders zone defense as they would only score once in the opening quarter. Roberts, who averages 9.6 rebounds per game, ruled in the paint created an even more difficult task for the Lady Panthers to capitalize on any rebounds.

The Ridgeview defense brandished in the second quarter allowing Kenny to score 9 points less than the first quarter; however  Ridgeview would only score twice in the second quarter closing out the first half trailing 45-6 to Kenny.

Second quarter game play would not deviate much for Ridgeview as a comeback did not appear to be in the forecast. The Lady Panthers were unable to break past the Kenny defense to claim a significant stake on the scoreboard .

Nuk Standfield and Rachel Dolmovich maintained the Crusaders control of the ball dominating in rebounds as Kenny would outscore Ridgeview 13-3 in the third quarter.

Kenny (26-2) will battle Ribault (17-8) next Tuesday  in the Class 6A Regional Semifinals for a spot in the Elite 8 of the playoffs.
