JACKSONVILLE – Ten high schools representing Clay and Duval counties from schools such as Sandalwood, Orange Park, Clay, Ridgeview, Wolfson, Oakleaf and Mandarin just to name a few attended the Third Annual Jaguars Girls Flag Football Tournament Feb. 24 at the Dreamfinders Homes Indoor Facility.
The event started at 8 a.m. with each team playing two pre-season games. The girls brought their A game and talents with them. A special appearance from the Jacksonville Dixie Blues girls football team was a welcome site as they came to support and talk with the girls about playing football as well as from Jaguar Blair Brown.
Mandarin won both of its games during the day with wins over Orange Park 29-24 and Oakleaf 25-12, as did Sandalwood; while Ridgeview beat Wolfson 24-0 in the first game, then 17-0 the second game.
All in all It was a great experience for the girls to come out and play two games with new teams from other schools and some teams played their rivals.
Fans came out as well, including some of the high school’s varsity football teams were among the supporters for the girls.
Many of the girls are seniors and this is their last season of the sport that they started when they were freshman. Some of them said these were the best memories being with their teammates, playing a sport they love, and wining of course.
While this weekend was a chance for teams and coaches to get the kinks of out of the way with two preseason games, coaches and players are eagerly awaiting for the season to begin the first week of March.
