Tournament of Champions Day One recap: Trinity, Oakleaf advance

OAKLEAF – Day one of the Second Annual Tournament of Champions set the tone for the weekend with a pair of thrilling games.

In game one, Trinity got a complete team effort in a 5-0 win over Clay, while Oakleaf exploded in the sixth inning to steal a win from West Nassau in the nightcap.

Trinity 5, Clay 0

Behind a combined shut out from Bailey Cooley and Morgan McMillian, Trinity cruised to a 5-0 win in Game 1 of the tournament Thursday night.

Alexis Ross and MacKenzie Marell added three hits each to spur the offense.

Scoreless through three innings, Marell laced a RBI double in the gap to give Trinity a 1-0 lead.

Ahead 2-0, Marell plated two more runs on a 2 RBI single up the middle to extend the Conquerors lead to 4-0 in the fifth.

In her final at bat, Ross delivered a RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0 in the top of the sixth.

Oakleaf 7, West Nassau 1

Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Oakleaf exploded for 6 runs to steal a 7-1 win over West Nassau in the nightcap.

Cambria Arturo earned the win after striking out 12 and holding the Warriors to just one run.

Jaeda McFarland 1-4 with 2 RBI, Madi Davis 1-3 with 2 RBI, Kaylee Lambrecht 1-3 with a double, Jaycie Brookshire 1-2, Aspen Windesheim 1-3, Caitlynne Lamug RBI and Madi McDaniel both had a RBI, while Jadrianna Serrano had two walks.
