Gainesville- Receiving a D1 scholarship offer while still in middle school isn’t as shocking of an event as it was a few years ago. However for Northeast Florida, it’s certainly electrifying to see two of the biggest programs in it’s backyard extend an offer to the same athlete. Trinity Christian Academy 8th-grader and Duval Sports Top 50 Middle School player Treyaun Webb was offered by the University of Florida this afternoon after visiting the school. Webb who stands at 6’0ft and 181lbs, is the first middle school athlete to be offered a football scholarship by the University of Florida from Northeast Florida.
It was an emotional experience for Treyaun, holding back tears as he tried on the Orange and Blue. It’s something his older cousin defensive back Dee Webb once wore as well, before being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s that passion and pride that motivated Florida to move on the offer after seeing it displayed on film. Touring the academic halls, and speaking with tutors really impressed Treyaun’s father Reggie Webb Jr. Said the proud dad, “I’m just trying to soak it all in, but he needs to keeps God first, stay humble, stay focused, and stay ready cause there is always someone out there working harder than you”.
Working hard is exactly what the young and gifted athlete did this year accumulating over 400 all purpose yards at running-back this past football season for Trinity Christian on varsity. His biggest performance was in a playoff game against Bolles where he closed out the contest with a 94-yard touchdown run.
Treyaun’s play on the field has garnered the attention of several scouts. He already has offers from Valdosta State, Florida Atlantic, The University of Miami, and Georgia. Florida joins the company of D1 schools vying for the services of the young man people simply refer to as ” Webb”. He joins Mowat Middle School’s Randy Pittman as the only other middle school athlete offered by Florida this year.
