KISSIMMEE- Day 2 was another good one for area softball teams as Keystone Heights, West Nassau and Oakleaf all advanced to the semifinals of the 27th Annual Roger Jones Kissimmee Klassic.
Keystone Heights 7, Frostproof 0
Sophomore pitcher Daelynn Eatmon fired a one-hitter while striking out 10 and walking only two to help Keystone Heights advance to the semifinals of the Gold Division.
Eatmon carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Belle Mancillas singled to break up the hitless game.
While Eatmon was shutting down the Bulldogs offense, the Indians offense unleashed a explosive attack on Mancillas accumulating 12 hits and 7 runs.
Ashton Ludwig doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a pass ball ball to give the Indians a 1-0 lead in the first.
In the second, Isabelle Woodell was hit by a pitch and stole second then Kendall Gagnon singled to score Woodell. Gagnon scored on Asia Givens RBI single, who advanced to second on the throw home and scored on Kiley Channel RBI double for a 4-0 lead.
Eatmon retired the first 10 batters in order before allowing her first baserunner on a one out walk in the fourth.
Ludwig singled and scored on Savannah Channel RBI double, Mackenzie Lemaster followed with a RBI single scoring Channel to extend the Indians lead to 6-0 in the fourth.
Mancillas reached on a two out single in the fifth to break up the no-hitter but was left stranded as Eatmon struck out the ensuing batter.
Emma Rogel reached on an error with two outs in the fifth before scoring on Ludwig RBI single for a 7-0 lead through five.
The Indians were led by Ludwig (3-3, 1 RBI), Rogel (2-4), Givens (2-3, 1 RBI), Gagnon (2-3), Savannah Channell (1-4), Kiley Channell (1-4, 1 RBI) and Lemaster (1-2, 1 RBI)
Keystone Heights (12-4) will play Pensacola Tate Saturday at 1 in the semifinals of the Gold Division.
West Nassau 4, St. Cloud 3
After blowing the lead in the bottom of the seventh, West Nassau retook the lead in the top of the eighth to stun host St. Cloud 4-3 in 8 innings.
Tied at 3-3 after seven innings, the game moved to Texas Tiebreaker rules with the Warriors starting with a runner on second.
Pinch runner Madison Armstrong was put on second, Mykhala Moore was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with no outs.
Kaleigh Clay reached on a fielders choice, which allowed Armstrong to score to give the Warriors a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth.
Megan Kroger, who entered the game in the sixth replacing starter Regan Lee, got into a huge jam in the bottom of the eighth as the Bulldogs loaded the bases with one out.
However, Kroger regrouped by striking out the next two batters to escape the jam with no runs allowed helping the Warriors hold off the Bulldogs 4-3 in 8 innings.
St. Cloud jumped on Lee early with two runs in the first but Lee and Kroger kept them off the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh which forced extra innings.
Armstrong reached on an error with one out and scored on an error, Hope Epps reached on a bunt and scored on Madison Dixon RBI single tying the game at 2-2 after three innings.
The game remained in a 2-2 deadlock until the seventh inning when Clay singled to lead off the inning, moved to second and third on wild pitches and then scored on Bree Hartman RBI walk to put the Warriors ahead 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh.
However, the Bulldogs got a two out double from Amy McNab scoring Marley McNutt tying the game at 3-3 heading to the eighth.
The Warriors only managed four hits on the night but were timely hitters as Hopps Epps (1-5), Courtney Hengerer (1-4), Moore (1-2) and Clay (1-4, 1 RBI) were the lone batters to get hits, while both Madison Dixon (0-3) and Bree Hartman (0-2) went hitless but picked up a RBI in the win.
Lee and Kroger combined for 11 strikeouts, 4 walks, five hits and three earned runs.
West Nassau (12-6) will play Bartow Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Blue Division semifinals.
Oakleaf 12, St. Thomas Aquinas 0
After a sluggish win the night before, Oakleaf came out fired up and inspired to play in a 12-0 whooping on St. Thomas Aquinas.
Senior pitcher Madi Davis kept the Raiders off the bases with 7 strikeouts while allowing just two hits in four innings, before freshman Madi McDaniel closed it out in the fifth.
Meanwhile the Knights offense tattooed starter Jaime Davis for 9 hits, 10 runs, including six earned.
Baylee Goddard two out single started the fireworks and Jaycie Brookshire RBI single scored Goddard. Davis RBI single knocked in Brookshire giving the Knights a 2-0 lead in the first.
The Knights blew it open in the third with four runs on just two hits as Kaylee Lambrecht tripled and scored on Davis RBI bunt single. McDaniel pinch running for Jadrianna Serrano scored on an error, as did Davis and Caitlynee Lamug who reached on an error, for a 6-0 lead through three.
A sixth run fourth gave Oakleaf a shocking 12-0 lead as Goddard tripled to lead off and Brookshire followed with a two run home run. Lambrecht walked and scored on a wild pitch , Caitlynne Lamug singled in McDaniel and Katie Kistler followed with a 2 RBI ground out.
The Knights were led by Goddard (2-3), Brookshire (2-3, 3 RBI), Lambrecht (2-2), Davis (2-3, 2 RBI), Kistler (1-4, 2 RBI) and Lamug (1-3, 1 RBI).
Oakleaf (15-1) will play Copper City in the Blue Division semifinals today at 1 p.m.
Matanzas 4, Lecanto 2
Much better start for the Matanzas Pirates (13-1), who jumped on Lecanto early and often scoring single runs in the second, third, fifth and sixth to knock off the Leopards.
Emma Wood struck out seven, walked none and gave up one earned run to get the win for the Pirates.
The Pirates were led by Alyssia Paiz (2-3), Alyssa Payne (1-2), Randa Motsinger (1-3), Alexia Moy (1-3), Lexie Hawkins (1-3), Lovie Haley (1-3) and Ellie Hansen (0-2) with 2 RBI.
Motsinger led off the second with a double and pinch runner Wood scored on a pass ball to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Haley singled and scored on Hansen ground out to increase the lead to 2-0 at the end of three.
Paiz doubled and reached third on an error before scoring the third run of the game on Hansen RBI sac bunt to increase the lead to 3-0 through five.
Lecanto finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 3-1; however Moy singled and pinch runner Kadrianna Grinstead stole second and scored on an error to put Matanzas ahead 4-1 in the bottom half of the inning.
The Leopards cut the lead to 4-2 with a run in the top of the seventh before Wood closed the door on them with back-to-back outs to get the win.
Coral Reef 3, Matanzas 2
In the nightcap, Matanzas couldn’t hold on to a 2-0 lead though four innings, as Coral Reef rallied for 3 runs in the final three innings to stun Matanzas.
Janessa Casanas walk off single scored Jenice Casanas from second allowing Coral Reef to stun Matanzas 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh.
Matanzas struck first in the third as Alexia Moy walked and scored on a passed ball to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
The Pirates added to their lead in the fifth as Moy walked and scored on Lovie Haley RBI single increasing the lead to 2-0.
However the Barracudas answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to tie it at 2-2, thanks to two hits and a walk.
Matanzas (13-2) will complete its Kissimmee Klassic with a game with Okeechobee today at 1 p.m.
