Fleming Island shuts out rival Middleburg in flag football

MIDDLEBURG – Coming off their first loss of the season, Fleming Island took it out on rival and host Middleburg Thursday night in a 40-0 win.

The Eagles jumped on the host Broncos early on # 15 Aubrey Burke’s first touchdown of the game in the first quarter, and she didn’t stop there adding two more touchdowns throughout the night.

The Broncos had a couple first downs but couldn’t get through the Eagles defense.

Hope Rozier made a touchdown in the second quarter for Fleming Island to give the Eagles a 13-0 lead with 2:31 left in the half. Rozier made a couple touchdowns for the Eagles as well.

Down 21-0 in the third quarter, Middleburg held onto the ball, then it flipped back to the Eagles as both defenses battled through the quarter.

Rozier scored again to give the Eagles a 27-0 lead in the game.

Lexi Patel scored for Fleming Island to make it 33-0 Eagles in the fourth quarter.

Fleming Island ended the night with a touchdown from Amber Dotson to close it out at 40-0 with less than two minutes left in the game.

Middleburg (6-3) ended the regular season with the loss but will compete in the upcoming District 4-1A tournament April 23-25 at Clay as the No. 3 overall seed.

While Fleming Island (6-1) will close out the regular season with games at undefeated Clay on Monday and at home against arch-rival Orange Park on Thursday.
