Bartram Heats up in Third; Sweeps Fleming Island for St Johns Title

Bartram Trail clawed through to a dominating 10-0 win over Fleming Island to become the 2019 Saint John’s River Conference Champions.

The Lady Bears pummeled Menendez (15-0) earlier during the week in the quarterfinals and would later go on to defeat Middleburg (6-1) on Wednesday in the semi-finals. Armed with pitcher Nicole Masenko on the mound, The Lady Bears would completely shut out The Lady Golden Eagles on Thursday night. Bartram’s head coach Jen Harman advised, “We played a great team tonight, they have one of the best pitchers in the city. Our goal has been to put the ball in play throughout the order. The girls put forth a great effort and I’m very proud of them.”

Fleming Island’s sophomore pitcher and Florida State commit Morgan Kendrick went toe to toe up against Bartram’s Senior pitcher, Nicole Masenko which would result in a scoreless first two Innings for both teams.

The top of the 3rd produced a performance which consisted of Masenko striking out Lady Golden Eagle Kelsey Henderson. Bartram’s Emma Morris would then execute a two out throw bringing Bartram back to bat. Olivia Creamer would crack an amazing home run subsequently bringing forth runs by Mackenzie Williams, Kendall Ford and Katelyn Miller. The Lady bears would end the third Inning leading Fleming Island 4-0.

After a valiant effort but scoreless top of the fourth Inning, Fleming Island would head back to the outfield. Kendrick’s perfect pitch would strike out Bartram’s Riley Condon bringing Maegan O’Brien up to bat. O’Brien’s hit and second base steal proved to be an advantage for the Lady Bears that would eventually lead to bases loaded. O’Brien, Williams, Creamer, Ford and Katelyn Meyer would eventually bring in runs. A double play by Lady Golden Eagle Jadyn Chessner ended Bartram’s fourth Inning reign 9-0, Bartram.

Masenkso would begin the top of the fifth striking out Fleming Island players back to back to back sending the Lady Bears back up to bat. A hit by Emma Morris would bring in Williams for the run ending the game 10-0.

Bartram is now (18-3) on the season and (2-0) in the district. The Lady Bears will face Yulee next Monday.
