The Bolles Boys Track & Field team won the 2A State title Saturday after tallying 64 overall points. For the Bulldogs, its their second overall Boys Track & Field title, the first coming exactly twent years ago in 1999.
Bolles overall had an impressive showing at the FHSAA State Championships held at the University of North Florida. Both the Boys and Girls athletes racked up state championships across the board. Perhaps none more impressive than Bolles Pole Vaulter Laine Roberts.
Roberts won her second straight state championship in the pole vault competition with a best of 3.75 m (12′ 3½” ). For Roberts, she overcame a back injury suffered from a fall during an attmept early in the compettion to surrount the competition. Amazingly, Roberts finished second overall two years ago in a jump off for the title. She’s added two state titles along with her state runner up trophy as well. Her next goal is to accomplish the three-peat, while shattering the state record set by Lindsey Enders (12-10.00) of Holy Trinity in 2011.
Senior Charles Hicks won the 2A 1600M championship capping a brilliant senior campaign. Hicks showed incredible strength down the stretch as he pushed past his closest opponent and held him off at the last 50 meters of the race. His 10-points were instrumental in Bolles winning the overall title.
