PONTE VEDRA – Ponte Vedra won the areas first state boys lacrosse title last night in Boca Raton with a 19-7 win over St. Thomas Aquinas.
How did they get there ? Wins over Providence 17-1 in round one at home, and 12-5 at Lake Mary in round two put them into the Elite.
Only thing standing in there way of getting to Boca Raton was a tough Bolles team looking to pull the upset.
Before getting to Boca Raton, Ponte Vedra had to get by Bolles first in the regional final game, a 20-3 win by the Sharks.
“We are a team and everyone contributed to the win. We are humble-hungry,” Ponte Vedra head coach Tom West said.
Patrick Dotsikas led Ponte Vedra with 4 goals, while Freddie Amati would follow up with 3 goals. Toni Rossi, Dylan Hess and Jack Dowd each scored 2 goals while Campbell Parker, Cameron Welch, Freddie DiMarzo, Carter Parlette, Joe Taraboletti and Aidan Dunigan scored as well leading the Sharks to victory.
Hess struck the initial blow in the first quarter followed by Dotsikas giving Ponte Vedra an early 2-0 lead. Stefan Mostovych made the play which would put Bolles on the board.
The Sharks continued their firm grip the remainder of the quarter ending with a 6-1 lead over the Bulldogs.
Amato would break the Bulldog defense to score, while the Sharks continued to rain down goals.
Jack Mulvey would manage to score two goals for Bolles, unfortunately Ponte Vedra would lock down the defending goal blocking all Bulldog shot attempts to end the second quarter with a 12-3 lead.
The Sharks would proceed to stalk the Bulldogs throughout the third and fourth quarters executing tremendous blows to the Bolles defense helping Ponte Vedra capture the regional championship.
