Christ’s Church Midnight Practice Motivated by CJ Spiller

Determined, hopeful  and motivated players illuminated under the moonlit sky patiently awaiting the stroke of midnight. Accompanied by head coach Jim Stomps, Christ Church would carry on the five year tradition of Midnight practice. “First team to practice, last team to practice. The last team to practice will play in the State Championship game”,  explained Stomps.

Two hours beforehand, Stomps, players , parents , cheerleaders and fans filled the Eagles gym. All-American and famed NFL runningback C.J. Spiller addressed the crowd. Spiller is a former Union County High athlete whom rushed for 5,511 yards on 541 carries during his high school career earning Spiller a scholarship to Clemson University.

A record breaking college career would lead Spiller to become an overall ninth draft pick to the Buffalo Bills. Spiller has played for teams such as the New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets and The Kansas City Chiefs. “I feel like I’m a part of this family and everyone here is so special to me. Players do your best because the game will not last always. Education and academics should be your number one priority” Spiller noted.

Hickory, Dickory Dock. The Eagles ran up the clock. The clock struck twelve , the Eagles ran down the clock and onto the field bursting with excitement. “While everyone is in the bed sleeping , we are getting work done “ Stomps reminded the players.

Opening with a thirty seven man squad , Christ Church kicked off the season with a veteran team consisting of twelve seniors. Ten of the returning seniors have been a part of Stomp’s program since they were in the eighth grade. The Eagles have had the opportunity to become divisional champions four years in a row which resulted in the team becoming runner ups three times. They’ve come up short twice for the conference championship, but look forward to pushing for it this year.

In 2019, Christ Church has the opportunity take the next step with a new team to do something special. The Eagles are packing a punch this year with several standout players. Key player and All State quarterback Ben Anderson whom is known for his quick thinking and strong arm. Powerhouse left tackle Matt Jarozeski whom has several college offers to play as an offensive tackle. Hunter Hollis performs well as a slot with great hands. Big Aeden Sheehan doubles as a wide receiver and cornerback.

Defensive player Zac O’Connor is a linebacker with over one hundred tackles last season. The Eagles defense has a variety of  players that have accomplished great and outstanding goals on the field. Without any transfers on the roster , Christ Church has a solid returning team. The Eagles lost last year in the second round to Orlando Christian Prep whom ultimately captured the State Championship title. Reminiscent of the loss, the Eagles have been battle tested and with wings spread wide they are aware of what is needed to get to the next bar.

Beginning with the blow of the whistle, the Eagles planned to wake up the neighborhood as they began the start of a season destined for greatness. A strong and well experienced team of Eagles taking flight into the season well equipped to bring back a state championship to the nest this year. “Our ultimate goal is the State Championship Game. Ultimately, our number one goal is to honor Christ in our words and our actions. Our motto is C.C.C, Christ Character Class. The fourth C is Champion , the ultimate champion is Jesus Christ, “ exclaims Stomps.

Soar on Eagles into a season in which the sky is the limit. Christ Church has a sure set season in store on the field and off the field building young men filled with character , class and a reverential respect for Christ. They are steadfast , immovable and ready for some football!
