Buchholz Shines at Kickoff Classic Against Bishop Kenny

Bishop Kenny- Buchholz would shut down Bishop Kenny on the river with a 25-0 shut-out during the kickoff classic Thursday night. Buccholz Head Coach Mark Whittemore commented, “ Bishop Kenny’s stadium has a beautiful venue along with the water and the Jaguars playing at the stadium in the background. It was a great night to have some success. Our linebacker core played really well. It was a defensive lead effort. We plan to get better week by week”.

Damien Curtis, Adrian Sermons and Ayrton Decastro would score touchdowns for the Bobcats. The game began with Bishop Kenny in possession of the ball. A big tackle by Buchholz’s Jessie Modican pumped  up the game action.

Shortly afterwards, Kenny’s John Godwin went on to catch a nice pass. Later an interception by Buchholz’s Damien Curtis would set up the first score of the evening. Buchholz captured the 6-0 lead over Bishop Kenny with 9:44 left in the first quarter.

The Crusader’s offense would be rivaled once again with an interception from Buchholz’s Terrell Jackson. Michael Myslinski represented Kenny’s defense well with a big sack on the Buchholz offense. The Crusader offense began to shine when Andrew Tabor caught a clean pass. However, the Buchholz defense continued to apply pressure halting Kenny’s efforts to score.

A catch by Buchholz’s Sermons would increase the Bobcats lead to 12-0 with only 3:11 minutes left in the first quarter. Kenny’s defense managed to keep the Buchholz offense at bay, unfortunately the Kenny offense suffered due to errors and dropped balls ending the first quarter .

Strategic defensive plays were seen by Crusaders Chris Devenny, Kyle Lendry and Travis Driggers in the second quarter. It was a glimpse of how Bishop Kenny intends to make plays on defense this year.

With 1:32 left in the second, Decastro would score a Buchholz touchdown. With a good extra point  the second quarter would end with a 19-0 Bobcats lead.

Neither of the teams would score in the third quarter. Both Junior Varsity teams would play the 4th quarter. Buchholz’s Junior Varsity scored ending the game 25-0, Buchholz.

Going into the season, Bishop Kenny’s offense will need some work. The Crusader defense made some good plays but will need to be more consistent through out to match their opponents. The Buchholz defense is solid with players like Eric Alvarez, Jason Martin, Damien Curtis, Eli Randall King and Gregory Knox. The Bobcats will have to of work on the offensive execution their players going into the season to match the efforts of the opportunistic defense.
