Oakleaf- Oakleaf Junior High’s Donald Hampton Jr took the opening kickoff 70 yards to the house for a touchdown, as the Yellow Jackets stung the Lakeside Gators 28-6 on Tuesday.
Oakleaf scored 28 points in the first half on a barrage of plays that never seemed to stop. After the kickoff return, they forced a punt on defense, over the ball sailed over the kicker’s head and was recovered in the endzone by Lakeside giving Oakleaf the safety. Oakleaf would get the ball on the free kick leading 9-0 just minutes into the first quarter. The score wouldn’t stay that way for long as quarterback Brandon Wallace took the end around the right side for a touchdown.
Lakeside was down 16-0 early in the contest and attempted control the temp of the game with short runs, however the Oakleaf defense was fast, and quick. What Lakeside had in power Oakleaf matched with quickness, attacking the line of scrimmage. The defensive effort forced another punt by Lakeside as the teams headed into the second quarter.
The second quarter saw Oakleaf score twice again. First, Donald Hampton Jr would get the hand off up the middle, cut right, and race 35 yards to pay dirt! The touchdown gave Oakleaf a commanding 22-0 lead.
On the very next possession, Lakeside would fumble and it would be recovered by Oakleaf’s Elijah Thompson. A few plays later, big Caleb White would score a touchdown pounding the ball up the middle for the last score of the first half as Oakleaf led 28-0
With a running clock in the second half coach Merlin Smith of Oakleaf entered his second team offense and defense to finish the game. Lakeside would score a touchdown late in the fourth, but it would be to little to late as the Yellow Jackets prevailed in their week#2 NEFAC miffle school football game.
