Middle School Football: Stingrays Run Past Flyers 20-0

Plantation Park- The Gamble Rogers Stingrays defeated the Fruit Flyers 20-0 in week two action of the SJMSAA. The Stingrays are now 2-0 on the season. “This is a great community win,” said Coach Potak. Gamble scored on their second possession when Julian Quintero scored on a one yard run. Frankie Morabito’s extra point made it 7-0 Gamble.

Midway through the second quarter, Cason Blanco connected with Jason Watson on a 25-yard touchdown. “We mixed it up really well on offense,” said Potak. “Our offensive staff did a great job.” Quintero scored on a short touchdown run in the third quarter to make it 20-0.

Defensively the Stingrays forced three turnovers in the win. Frankie Morabito and Jason Watson had interceptions while Joseph Soto had a fumble recovery. Peyton Conley, Wyatt Trull, Julian Davila, Ben Johnson, Logan Cline and Devin Blocker led a strong defensive effort. “The defense was lights out!” Said Potak. “Our defensive coordinator Ron Evans and linebackers coach Mark Blocked always have the guys ready.”

Ready is exactly what the Stingrays are after defeating two playoff teams from a year ago consecutively this year. The Stingrays get ready for Sebastian next, while Fruit Cove (2-2) looks to rebound against Liberty Pines (1-1).
