Defenses Dominate in Swiss Point Tough Victory Over Liberty Pines

Plantation Park– If it’s one thing we learned from Swiss Point’s defeat of Liberty Pines in SJMSAA week #2 action is, both teams have dominant defenses. Each defense held the opposing offense to one score in the game, as the players flew all over the field in an attempt to win the pivotal game.

Swiss was led by fullback and linebacker Jack George, who scored from one yard out. George powered his way for the first score of the game early in the first quarter culminating a ball controlling drive.

The Raiders took a 6-0 lead in the game, and looked to keep the advantage. However, Liberty Pines would respond with a score of their own. The Wolves would get their touchdown in a different way as running-back Gavin Cook-Williams electrified the spectators in attendance on a 60-yard touchdown run to tie the game.

With the score knotted at 6, the defenses and special teams took over. Liberty would get big stops from their secondary in Ryan Spencer, Nick Weiss, Pierce Bridges . They forced the Swiss punt however it backed up the Wolves offense against their own end zone. The Raider defense stuffed the run and defended the pass on three straight downs. Looking to punt from their 3-yard line, the snap sailed over the punter’s head for a safety.

Swiss Point led 8-6 at halftime and that was all she wrote for the game. Big stops by Cameron Nadeau and the Raider defense stuffed the running plays from Liberty. Cook-Williams was unable to get to the outside as he did in the first half due to the advances by the Swiss Point linemen and linebackers. Final: Swiss Point 8 Liberty Pines 6

The low scoring affair might be a cause for concern for most teams, but it shouldn’t be for Swiss Point and Liberty Pines. Both teams displayed defenses that championships are made of, and both teams will be looking toward that goal this season.

Liberty Pines (1-1) was set to face Fruit Cove(1-1) this week, while Swiss Point(1-1) prepared to face Murray (1-1). However, due to Hurricane Dorian the games were cancelled, and a rescheduled date has not been set as of yet.
