Trinity Christian HS- It took just one play on offense for Trinity to score on Friday night against Carol City. Backed up on their own 2-yard line, quarterback Jacory Jordan dropped back to pass and hit wide receiver Jaylen Fowler in stride for a 98-yard touchdown pass to start the game.
Trinity could’ve opted to play conservative in the shadow of their own end-zone, however the Conquerors elected to use the big arm of their junior quarterback whose connected on big plays of late. Jordan would go long again later in the game, when he hit his big play making receiver Marcus Burke on a 33-yard touchdown.
The Jordan to Burke connection wasn’t finished, as the two dialed up an 82- yard long pass and catch touchdown for Trinity. Everything was clicking for Trinity, who went on to defeat Carol City 42-21.
The passing game wasn’t the only thing clicking for the Conquerors as running back Kyjuan Herndon went off again. Herndon rushed for 138 yards and two scores on the evening.
With his fifteenth carry, Herndon moved into second place in the state of Florida in rushing yards with 912 in just five games. He is also 29th in the country in rushing. Trinity has found success on the ground in their running game. They’ve rushed for 1,199 yards on the season with 15 touchdowns. Running back Fernando Porter added a score for Trinity against Carol City.
Trinity’s formula of late has been to capitalize on explosive plays. Something they struggled with early on in the season. Carol City got three scores from freshman quarterback Keyone Jenkins on the evening, however it wasn’t enough to keep up with the long ball that Trinity played.
Trinity improved to 2-4 on the season, gaining their first win since week 2 versus Godby. They’ll look to add another “W” against Pahoke Friday at home. Carol City (2-3) has yet another juggernaut on their schedule in St. Thomas Aquinas (3-0). St. Thomas travels to Mandarin in two weeks.
