Great Scott, It’s Tomberlin Time! Controversial Call Rallies Episcopal Over Crescent City

Jacksonville Fl- With just 18 seconds remaining in the game, Episcopal trailed visiting Crescent City 21-18. Eagles quarterback Tucker Tomberlin dropped back to pass and found his wide receiver Ja’Cory Scott in the corner of the end-zone for a touchdown with just 4 seconds remaining in the game.

Trailing 26-21, Crescent City had time for just one more play. Their quarterback Naykee Scott dropped back to pass and decided to run it himself from his own 35 yard line. Scott weaved his way through the Episcopal defense all the way to the Eagles 40 yard line before being bottled up by defenders. Amazingly, Scott had the wherewithal to find his wide receiver Jeremiah Roofe who he lateraled the football to. Roofe would reverse field and take it all the way for an apparent winning touchdown for Crescent City.

However on the play, referees ruled that Scott was down before he lateraled the football to Roofe, thus ending the game and giving Episcopal the five point win. The call created much dispute from the Crescent City staff, as it appeared that Scott’s knee was not down. In the end, the call on the field stood cementing an amazing Episcopal comeback on the night.

After going up 6-0 on a 13-yard touchdown run by Ershod Jasey, the Eagles found themselves behind 21-6 at halftime. Crescent City seemed to be in complete control the game early on as Naykee Scott powered his way in for the Raiders first score.

Scott would then hit Roofe on a strike down the middle for a 25-yard touchdown to give Crescent City the lead in the second quarter 13-6. The Raiders came into the game with much to prove, as they felt overlooked and not given much attention for their play. Well Naykee Scott made sure that his great play gained the attention of everyone in attendance.

After his brother Naykeem Scott intercepted an Episcopal pass, Naykee Scott would score his second rushing touchdown on the ground to give Crescent City a 21-6 lead. Not to be outdone by his sibling, Naykee now on defense, would register an interception to end the half.

Incredibly, Naykee had two rushing touchdowns, a passing touchdown and an interception all in one half of football. It was a great start by Scott and the Raiders, yet Episcopal wasn’t done making plays of their own.

It was Tomberlin time in the second half, as quarterback Tucker Tomberlin went to his big tight end Nicholas Elksnis (Penn State commit) to jump start the offense. They hooked up on a 50-yard pass and catch in the third quarter.

The play set up a touchdown run by Ershod, his second of the night, as Episcopal began to make moves on the score board. They trailed 21-12 in the fourth.

Tomberlin time continued in the fourth quarter, as the Episcopal quarterback went to work with his receivers. This time it would be wide receiver John Bogan on the reeving end of Tomberlin’s touchdown. The score would pull Episcopal to within three points at 21-18, before Tomberlin would toss his second touchdown of the game to take the lead.

It was a thrilling comeback for Episcopal who improved to 5-1 on the season. They’ll face Cedar Creek (1-4) next week. Crescent City (2-2) visits Keystone Heights (4-0) next week.
