Christ’s Church Swoops Down Rendering Bishop Snyder Powerless

Westside-Two years ago, the Christ’s Church Eagles landed at the Bishop Snyder Cardinal’s nest and suffered a 14-12 loss. Fast forward to the 2018 season, where Christ’s Church would defeat Bishop Snyder 44-7. Moving on to the present, Christ’s Church ironically defeated Bishop Snyder 44-7 again. Christ’s Church’s Jim Stomps said, “Two years ago we played here, we didn’t play very well and we lost. The boys were not very happy .We left something here two years ago on this field. Today we were prepared to win”.

After the early morning passing of the honorable Bishop John J. Snyder, everyone in attendance at the Cardinals Stadium stood in unison moments before the game to honor his great legacy in prayer.

Christ’s Church began the game with an on-sides kick, which was recovered by their kickoff team. The Eagle’s quarterback Ben Anderson would go to work quickly, completing a pass to wide receiver Aeden Sheehan marking the first touchdown of the game. The two point conversion would not be successful, as the Eagles began with a 6-0 lead over the Cardinals.

Bishop Snyder’s turnover on downs resulted in Christ’s Church regaining possession of the ball with 8:37 in the first quarter. On second down, Anderson would complete a pass over to Hunter Hollis for the touchdown. Sheehan later ran a perfect two point conversion. Christ’s Church held the 14-0 lead over Bishop Snyder as the first quarter came to a close.

Christ’s Church began the second quarter with the ball in tow as Anderson would throw a pass to Davis Crenshaw followed by a huge tackle by Bishop Snyder’s Max Carballo. The Eagles would later kick a field goal which failed while 10:11 remained in the second quarter. The teams would trade offensive possessions end in turnover on downs. Finally, carries by Cadence Lampp would moved the ball down the field for the Eagles.

The drive would end with Lampp scoring a touchdown. The extra point was good, and Christ Church held the 21-0 lead over Bishop Snyder as 5:34 remained in the second quarter. The Bishop Snyder offense would start their drive with Ijon Richardson’s complete pass to Isaac James which resulted in a first down. A fumble on the Cardinals next play granted Christ’s Church’s outside linebacker Lee Setzer the opportunity to recover the ball and return it for a touchdown. The first half would end with Christ’s Church holding a 28-0 lead over Bishop Snyder.

In the third quarter, Christ’s Church opened the scoring when Davis Crenshaw darted through Bishop Snyder’s defense for a touchdown increasing their lead to 36-0. As the Cardinal’s offense attempted to recover, an interception by Crenshaw would give the Eagles the ball right back. Like clockwork, Christ’s Church would capitalize on the turnover as Lampp catapulted across the goal line for a touchdown ending the third quarter with a score of 44-0.

The Cardinals would strike back in the fourth as Richardson glided across the goal causing the Bishop Snyder stand to uproar in loud cheers as they witnessed their first touchdown of the evening. Unfortunately, the play was a bit late to allow any chance for a Cardinal comeback. The Eagles landed at the Cardinal Stadium to take back the win which was lost two years ago.

Bishop Snyder is now 0-6 with expectations of picking up some wins within the season. Christ Church holds a 5-0 ranking while their sights on winning the State Championships.

Bishop Snyder will travel to Cedar Creek Christian (1-4) on October 11th. While Christ’s Church will host Munroe (Quincy FL) this week. The Eagles midnight practice motto, “First team to practice will be the last team on the field practicing for state” is holding true based on the outlook of the team’s success.
