Northwestern- Highlands defeated Northwestern 48-6 to remain undefeated on the season. The defending Duval County middle school champions got big efforts from several players in the victory.
Jonathan “Dude” Decosta scored on a rushing touchdown to put the Wildcats up 16-0 and the route was on. He scored twice against Northwestern, and has been a big part of the team’s running success, but it hasn’t stopped with him.
Highlands showed that they can go to the air with a quick strike on a 55 yard touchdown pass! Wide Receiver Davian Lucas caught it in stride from quarterback Elisha Moorefield and took it to the house. Highlands led 24 to 0 in the 2nd quarter. Moorefield would also hook up with tight end De’Angelo Robinson for a score later in the game for two touchdown passes.
What makes the Wildcats dangerous is their mixture of talent at the running back position. Keandre Harold rushed for two touchdowns in the game. His second made the score 40-6 on a 40 yard run.
Northwestern showed heart and effort as Sincere Gates scored for the team. Yet overall, the defending champs were just too much for the Jackets.
It’s going to be a match up between two defending champions today, as 2017 champion Ribault, faces 2018 champion Highlands. Both teams are undefeated and it’s sure to be a great game filled with action and play making, showcasing the future of prep sports on the field.
