Mandarin- The Providence Stallions have worked hard all season, and that hard work paid off with a big win over Christ’s Church 28-20 win Friday night. Undefeated Christ’s Church ( 6-0) would soar into the game up against 4-1 Providence ready and prepared to do as they have done the entire season; win. However, the Stallions shockingly trampled through the Eagles nest leaving no room for doubt as they stampeded away with playoff.
Providence’s Coach Bobby Dean McGlohorn would say after the game, “Tonight’s game was a great football game played hard on both sides and by both teams. Our seniors have done a great job of working hard and leading this year. A lot of guys stepped into key roles tonight and I’m very proud of them. We are humble, hungry and looking forward to the playoffs”.
The first quarter jolted into play as Providence received the ball after the Christ’s Church kickoff. Quarterback Austin Walker would complete a pass to Cade Windham for the Stallion’s first touchdown. Kicker Jacob Young’s scored extra point gave Providence the 7-0 lead while 10:26 remained in the first quarter. The Eagles began the next play with the ball in hand. After a series of team penalties, quarterback Ben Anderson completed a pass to Cadence Lampp for a Christ’s Church touchdown. David Britt’s kick would tie the score 7-7 to end the first quarter.
The Providence offense was met with opposition in the second quarter as Lampp , Aeden Sheehan and Zac O’Connor pummeled through the line clawing the ball out their hands . Christ’s Church’s offense would also suffer the same fate while Providence’s Luke Anderson, Koel Johnson and Max Sushinsky tackled and broke up the Eagles’ plays. As the second quarter closed, the score remained tied at 7-7.
The third quarter presented a different game dynamic as Christ’s Church moved the ball into play after receiving the kickoff. Anderson’s pass to Davis Crenshaw saw him turn it into a touchdown run, as the Eagles took a 14-7 lead in the third quarter. The Stallions answered back, as Windham rocketed a pass over to Jacob Young to pick up a touchdown. The missed extra point would leave Providence trailing behind Christ’s Church’s 14-13 lead.
After regaining possession of the ball, Providence would turn over on downs sending the ball back to Christ’s Church. James Gilligan intercepted the Eagle’s pass on a third down play, breaking out into the open field not ceasing until he crossed the goal line; Stallions touchdown. Along with a successful two point conversion, Providence would take over the lead 21-14 ending the third quarter.
The fourth quarter would begin as the third ended when Providence intercepted Christ’s Church again. The Stallions connected the dots on a double pas play when Walker threw the ball to Jaiden Martinez -Heath, whom in turn threw the ball to Thomas Woods to score a touchdown. Providence held the 28-14 lead while nine minutes remained in the game. The Eagles would score another touchdown as 7:25 remained in the fourth quarter, however the Stallions defense would apply pressure to ensure the victory.
The Eagles fall to 6-1 on the season, and look forward to improving in an upcoming battle against Bronson. The Stallions now hold a record of 5-1 and are looking forward to breaking into the playoffs with the same energy they used for Friday’s stunning victory.
