After Ribault’s shut-out the defending Duval County Middle School Champions Highlands by a score of 20-, the stage is set for an epic battle reminiscent of two years ago. That year, Ribault and Gilbert squared off in a game that decided the North division, but the county championship as well. Two years later, it looks like that is setting up to be the case again.
Ribault dominated the second half of the game against Highlands immediately making an impact. The third quarter kicked off with Ribault’s Charles Irving relieving a kickoff and rolling 60 yards for the game’s first score. Irving showed incredible speed down the sideline, instantly giving the Colts a much needed jolt of energy.
Next, the defense would get in on the action as Highlands was backed up deep into their own territory. A fumble would roll into the end-zone and would be recovered by linebacker Warren Couser for a touchdown. This gave the Colts a 14-0 lead over Highlands.
Raquez Bacon closed out the scoring for Ribault in the fourth quarter on a powerful touchdown run that sealed the game for the Colts. The victory was revenge from a loss last year to Highlands, while setting up an epic battle with Matthew Gilbert Middle , who is also undefeated on the season.
For Highlands, they’ll look to end the season on a positive note, securing another winning season. Their loss to Matthew Gilbert this week eliminated them from playoff contention. Ribault is once again filled with talent, and the talented team will look to return the championship trophy to Winton Drive. First they must handle business in a big showdown versus Gilbert in the coming weeks.
