Duval Sports kicks off December featuring our inaugural Girl’s Basketball Top 10 list. A weekly list of the best girls basketball teams in the area, all the way to the end of the season. The list is compiled by our girl’s basketball expert Tashyra Feazell, a standout prep basketball star who’s played against some of the best the game has seen in Florida. Follow her Top 10 list weekly and the great girls action in high school basketball on Duval Sports all the way to Lakeland, as we cheer them on to state titles.
- Bolles (6-1)- Shekinah Sanders was already one of the best players in the area by herself last year now you add freshman Taliah Scott, one of the most heralded freshmen in the state that just spells pure dominance for the Lady Bulldogs.
- Bishop Kenny (3-3)– Although the record reads .500, this team is no where near subpar. The Lady Crusaders have faced some of the best competiton early on in the season and that will help elevate them in the postseason
- Ribault (7-1) – I love a good story of a former star athlete coming back to lead their alma mater and Dorian Stevens is doing just that. The Lady Trojans can go deep into their bench and play 8 or 9 deep. They will have their hands full in the next couple of weeks, let’s see how they handle it
- Raines (8-1) Coach Paden was dealt a bad hand before the season started with the loss of senior center Teyana Carswell but the Lady Vikings are up for the task and continue to push through
- Sandalwood (5-0) Yes they are undefeated but their only tough wins have come against Nease and Terry Parker. The frontcourt of the Lady Saints with Caitlin McGee (6’1) and Jada Jones (6’4) is a tough matchup for anyone
- University Christian (6-0) – The Harkless sisters…THE END
- Middleburg (4-1) Middleburg will face some difficult opponents in the next couple of weeks, interested to see how they bounce back after a double digit loss to Bishop Kenny. Anything is possible when you are led by a Seton Hall, Big East, D-1 commit though
- Creekside (5-1) my sleeper pick, Creekside has quietly made a name for themselves, losing early in the year to Middleburg hurt them with my ranking but they will face some hard competition this upcoming holiday season and they can only learn and get better
- Mandarin (4-2) – a very good, young squad for the Lady Mustangs, they are currently on a losing streak but I look for them to bounce back and surprise some people
- Terry Parker (3-3)- the squad with the best potential on the list, two solid guards and a post presence. Kiana Wilson, Janell Johnson and Brianna Raynor will have to step up big time for this team
