It’s a new year and the boys are at the half way point to their basketball seasons. The official FHSAA playoff rankings have been released and several teams are vying for position to make the playoffs. Duval Sports releases its first Boys Basketball Power Rankings which also includes their current overall and class playoff rankings.
[table id=126 /]- Andrew Jackson (12-2)- The Tigers are off to a great start of the season, with just one loss on their record. Lead by returning big man Logan West, Jackson has won three straight games versus Providence, Paxon and most recently Lee. Coach James Collins and his team are eyeing a return trip to Lakeland.
2. Paxon (12-4)- Coach Toby Frazier has his Golden Eagles soaring into 2020 led by the player of the year Isaiah Adams. Adams is averaging 23.5 ppg and their team is very diverse. Quietly, Paxon has played the toughest schedule in the area and still ranked #2 in Class 4A.
3. Lee (12-2)– One of the most surprising teams of the area this year has been the Lee Generals and coach Stephen Jenkins. With wins over Impact, Palatka and St. Andrews, Lee has shown that they can score points and stop opponents.
4. Impact Christian (10-2)– Coach Benjamin Jones once again has Impact making an impact on the court. They’re ranked #1 in Class 2A with a diverse team led by Calvin Johnson’s 12.7 ppg and Jordin Jackson’s 11.9 ppg.
5. NFEI (12-3)- NFEI has a great team and great coaching staff. Coach Stacey Poole Jr is hoping to return to Lakeland, this time for a championship. They’ve battled a tough schedule as Jashawne Joseph leads them with 16 ppg.
6. Providence (11-5)– Coach Jim Martin takes another talented Providence team into a new year. The Stallions have navigated a tough first half schedule in 2019 and look to finish strong in 2020 to make a run for the playoffs.
7. Columbia (12-2)– Columbia falls in at #7, as the Tigers have played good basketball thus far. Steve Faulkner has his team playing tough defense, holding teams to low point totals. Darrien Jones leads the team with 10.8 ppg.
8. Hilliard (11-1) – The Red Flashes are red hot, currently ranked #2 in 1A playoff rankings. Coach Myron Saunders has guided his team to wins over quality opponents and looks to finish the second half of the season just as the first.
9. Bolles (7-4) – The Bulldogs and Coach Jason Hughes are utilizing the one-two punch of Ben McGraw (16.5 ppg) and Bobby Crouch( 16.8 ppg) to overwhelm opponents. They’ve got to turn up the defense if they want to move up in the power rankings.
10. West Nassau (5-6)– Rounding out the Top 10 is West Nassau, who has lots of talent however got off to a slow start.Wins over Providence and Paxon are indicators that this is a good team. Debo Coleman leads the team scoring 23.1 ppg).
