Apopka 53 Bartram 46

After falling to Sandalwood in the district tournament 50-33, Bartram’s season came to an end in the first round of the state playoffs when they were downed by Apopka. Mary McMillan led the Blue Darters with 21 points, including going 10 for 12 at the charity stripe. Hilani Cantone’s 5 steals, 5 assists, and 9 rebounds led an all around effort for Apopka.

Timber Creek 48 Sandalwood 45

In two seasons as Sandalwood’s Head Coach, Chatori Major has guided her team to consecutive playoff appearance. However a deep run last year was cut short this year by injuries and a first round loss to Timber Creek. Zora Fray Chinn scored 16 points for Timber Creek including going 3 of 4 from downtown. It was a close game all the way throughout as Sandalwood took an early 16-15 point lead. Jada Jones would hit a bucket to give the Saints a 45-43 lead in the fourth quarter. However, the Wolve’s Tatiana Ortiz hit two free throws to tie the game at 45, while Savannah Henderson would hit the go ahead bucket for Timber Creek. Henderson sunk a free throw to seal the victory as TimberCreek advances to face Apopka.

For Sandalwood, their talented tandum of Amari Wright (17ppg), and Jada Jones (14ppg) kept the Lady Saints a contender without super star teammate Caitlin McGhee who suffered injuries this year. Wright’s 5.5 assists per game and 5.8 steals per game cemented her as one of the main reasons Sandalwood kept the pressure on teams. Their outlook is extremely positive with freshman phenom Jada Jones returning.
