All three games involving Impact, Jackson and Columbia came down to the last possession. That’s to be expected when you reach the Boys Basketball Regional Finals as the best teams convene for the chance to go to the Final 4. Each of them looked to join Hilliard who already punched their ticket to Lakeland.
Impact Christian Academy 64 Famu 62 F
For Impact, they return to Lakeland after defeating Florida A&M High 64-62 Friday night. Impact last went to the State Championship game in 2018 when they fell to Miami Christian 59-46. This time they take on School House Prep (20-8). They’ll have to containt Anthony Lopez Jr who leads the Wolfpack in scoring (20.5ppg). Calvin Johnson leads the team with 12.7 ppg, yet the team has many talented play makers like Jordin Jackson(11.9 ppg) and Timothy Grant (9.4 ppg). Coach Ben Jones has his team playing their best basketball at the right time.
2020 Boys Basketball State Tournament Class 2AColumbia 70 Mainland 65 F
Columbia did it again, a last second win over a tough Daytona Beach Mainland team. #3. Columbia draws a dangerous team in #2. Dillard (23-7) in the Final 4. Kenny Gaines leads the team with 11.1 ppg and Darrion Jones is second with 10.6ppg. Yet they are a complete team getting several contributions from play makers and athletes. Coach Steve Faulkner face Dillard and Coach Darryl Burrows team. Senior Jalen Haynes leads them scoring 18ppg.
2020 Boys Basketball State Tournament Class 6AJackson 54 Windermere Prep 53
Jackson’s defense stepped up at the end of their game contesting shots of Winderme Prep and forcing them to miss several shots as the clock struck zero. The Tigers would be the ones to return to Lakeland for their Final 4 contest. Logan West (13.2 ppg), Jackie Simmons (7.5 ppg) and company lead Coach James Collin’s team against the 29-1 Community School of Naples. Ryker Vance leads them in scoring with 17 ppg. The 6’6 junior power forward will be the focus of the Tigers defense.
2020 Boys Basketball State Tournament Class 3AHilliard (22-3) vs Vernon(19-7)
The Red Flashes and Coach Myron Saunders have displayed incredible team work and continuity on their way to the Final 4. Jacob Crews has led the team in the playoffs and all year scoring 22.3 ppg. He’ll go toe to toe with Darrell Powell 20.5ppg. It’s the Red Flashes first appearance in the Final 4 since 1979.
