Without Spring Football, several High School Football athletes around Northeast Florida were unable to showcase their talents and abilities on the field for their teams. With the Covid-19 pandemic affecting the travel for college recruiters, and team’s ability to assemble, some of the top players in Northeast Florida have been unable to be seen. So for the next couple of weeks, Duval Sports will list the Top Players on each team in Northeast Florida.
Raines Vikings
Head Coach Donovan Masline takes over after the departure of two time state champion Head Coach Daran Wiley. Though it is very big shoes to fill, Masline is already stamping his name on the new regime in the recruitment game. That’s truly the name of the game in today’s High School Football arena, and he and his staff seem committed to getting the players to the next level.
*-Denotes a former Duval Sports Middle School Top 50 Athlete (Annual Top Middle School Football List)
Quarnell Madison, 2021 6,2 235lbs DE/OLB Key Offers: None
Looking to have a big year coming over to Raines. Head coach listed him as one of their top pass rushers this year.
Mikih McGhee, 2021 WR, CB 5’10” 153lbs Key Offers: None
Excellent ball skill receiver, can adjust in mid air. Dangerous with the ball in his hands.
*Kareem Burke, 2022, WR, 6’0, 165lbs Key Offers: Miami, Cincinnati, Bowling Green
He’s known around the area as KJ, and he’s also known around the area as one of the most explosive receivers on the field. Quickness, agility, speed, and can go get the ball in the air.
*Kyree Hammond 2022, 6’0, 188lbs Key Offers: Cincinnati, UConn, Tennessee
Hammond moved from wide receiver in middle school to predominantly defensive back in high school and it’s shown to benefit his ability to track the ball. He led his team in interceptions (9) including 7 for touchdowns.
Marquise Newman– 2021, 6’2, 240lbs, DE/OLB , Key Offers: None
Newman’s got good tape at the interior spot. In my opinion though, he looks quick and fast enough to play middle linebacker. Raines uses him on the line because of his size, but he can chase down the ball standing up too.
Cedric Newsome, 2021 , 6’3 250lbs DL|DE|LB Key Offers: None
Newsome wins his one on one match-ups at the line of scrimmage. He’s got great size and coach raves about his quickness.
Reshawn Latimer, 2022, 5’10. 165lb DB Key Offers: None
I coached this young man in youth football and he is still a dynamic football player. Speed, quickness, and the blood-line. His father was a standout wide receiver at Raines H.S. What he lacks in size he makes up in heart.
*Quincy Burroughs 2022- 6’2, 185lbs , WR, Key Offers: Cincinnati
Burroughs combines size, hands and speed to make up an all around complete wide receiver. You rarely find that at the high school level.
*Carleton Butler, 2022, 6’1, 190lbs , QB , Key Offers : None
Play making athlete at the quarterback position, Butler is able to zip strikes on slants and out, as well as fire the deep ball to receivers.
*De’Shyh Beaufort 2023 , ATH 6’1 170lb Key Offers: None
He’s definitely the youngest athlete to make the list, but he’s going to be special. It’s worth taking a look at him now, because his stock will rise quick. Size, Speed, and lots of confidence.
Raynarde Thomas 2021, MLB, 5’7″ 178lbs , Key Offers None
Coach Masline’s leader in the middle, he’ll lead the Vikings defense this year. Tough, physical and delivers a pop at the ball carrier.
