Landrum Powers To Season Open Victory Over Swiss Point

Ponte Vedra Fl- Running back Emmett Grzebin rushed for over 100-yards and scored four touchdowns on the ground to lead Landrum over Swiss Point 36-16 in the SJMSAA 2020 season opener at Cornerstone Park.

It was a packed field to witness the home team Landrum Lions and their new look team, seeking to get back to their 2018 championship form. Big and physical were the Lions, as their offensive line over-powered the Raider defense. Grzebin scored on a touchdown run in the first quarter to put Landrum up 8-0 early. He then added another run in the second quarter, a short run around the left end to give his team a 14-0 lead.

Needing a score to get back in the game, Swiss Point began to mix the run with the pass driving from their own 35-yard line. Finding themselves situated inside the red-zone, quarterback Harrison Miller hit Tight End Michael Moceri on the play action fake in the back of the endzone, as Swiss Point pulled to within six point at halftime. Landrum 14 Swiss Point 8.

In the second half, Landrum finished where they left off as Grzebin scored on a short run up the gut as the Lions expanded their lead 22-8.

Swiss faced desperation on their next drive but Jay Vanderline stepped up with an incredible catch to keep the Swiss Point drive alive on fourth down. C.J Brown would take the ball and power his way off the right side to switch momentum back to Swiss Point headed to the fourth quarter 22-16.

At the beginning of the fourth, fortune seemed to go the Raider’s way when leading rusher Emmit Grzebin exited the game with leg cramps Landrum. Yet the Lions showed that they are a deep team with several weapons, marching right down the field with a big pass play and several runs by Mason Hausman. Hausman would take it to the house on running play to give Landrum 30-16.

Landrum would close the game out with an interception and long return by safety Jack Ottesen. The play would set up Grzebin who would return to the game and finish the Raiders off with his fourth touchdown run of the game.
