Without Spring Football, several High School Football athletes around Northeast Florida were unable to showcase their talents and abilities on the field for their teams. With the Covid-19 pandemic affecting the travel for college recruiters, and teams ability to assemble, some of the top players in Northeast Florida have been unable to be seen. So for the next couple of weeks, Duval Sports will list the Top Players on each team in Northeast Florida.
Trinity Christian Academy
After falling in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs last season, Head Coach Verlon Dorminey and his coaching staff are back this season coaching the Conquerors. They’re looking to improve on his squad’s record from last year (5-6) by bringing in some fresh faces and having some key players from last year step up and lead the charge. Let’s meet the team.
Marcus Burke – Senior, 6’4, 180 lbs., Wide Receiver
The Conquerors leading receiver last season with 22.5 Receiving Yards on the season caught 9 receiving touchdowns out of the 10 touchdowns he scored. The University of Florida commit finished last season with 37 catches. This explosive WR is looking to build on last year’s performance and put the Conquerors back on top.
Jacory Jordan – Senior, 6’4, 192 lbs., Quarterback
Jordan threw almost 1200 Passing Yards for the season and averaged about 132 per game. The Bowling Green commit threw for 9 TDs last season and is looking to help bring the Conquerors not just to the playoffs but all the way to State.
CJ Ross – Senior, 5’11, 200 lbs., Linebacker
Last season Ross averaged about 5 tackles a game, having 59 on the season. The University of South Florida (USF) commit has improved his game each year. His last ride should be a great one to watch.
Corey Coley Jr. – Senior, 6’1, 190 lbs., Defensive Back
Make 38 tackles during the season for the Conquerors, averaging 3.5 tackles per game. This University of Maryland commit made 1 interception for the team last season and is looking to cause trouble for offenses everywhere this season.
Austin Barber – Senior, 6’7, 301 lbs., Offensive Line
The University of Minnesota commit comes up big on the offensive end for the Conquerors. This big presence on offense protects his QB with everything he’s got. Defensive players are going to have a hard time getting pass Barber.
Athletes To Watch Out For: Christian Ellis – Junior, 6’0, 200 lbs., Running Back
The transfer from Sandalwood High School. Made his decision to become a Conqueror the day before practice started. Ellis’ explosiveness and great field awareness has earned him looks from multiple colleges. Keep your eyes open for the rising star this season.
Caden Morrell – Junior, 6’0, 190 lbs., Linebacker
In his sophomore campaign, Morrell made 42 tackles and averaged almost 4 tackles a game. He finished the season averaging 2.5 sacks a game and caused 1 fumble. Look out for Morrell to showcase more of what he can do this season.
Treyaun Webb – Sophomore, 6’0, 190 lbs., Running Back
The young Running Back is a University of Georgia commit. He averaged 12 Rushing Yards per game last season and has been working all summer in weight room. Defenses better prepare for the future Bulldogs running game.
