Tuesday Tape: High School Football Week #1 Recap & Week#2 Preview

The tail of the tape is how we’ll do every Tuesday here on Duval Sports. We’ll recap several games highlighting teams and looking at some individual performers that went “Hollywood”, while previewing team’s next opponents.

Bartram 50 Creekside 40

A.J Jones III accounted for 264 all-purpose yards, 122 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns leading Bartram over Creekside in a shootout. Creekside’s Preston Strope scored 3 touchdowns in the first half to power the Knights. Daniel Plummer III tossed two touchdowns in the game. However Bartram was just too much as running back Eric Weatherly scored a punt return, Kick Return , and Rushing touchdowns in the game.

BISHOP SNYDER 12 ROCKY BAYOU CHR. 0

Snyder’s I’jon Richardson rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown as Bishop Snyder started the season 1-0 defeating Rocky Bayou. Snyder (1-1) will face Cedar Creek Christian(1-1) who defeated St. John Lutheran 54-0 last week.

HILLIARD 27 PAXON 14

Tywuan Lee amassed 188 rushing yards on the ground scoring a 13-yard touchdown rush to lead Hilliard over Paxon. Hilliard (2-0) faces St Joseph Academy (1-1) . Paxon (0-1) faces Yulee (1-1) this Friday.

RIDGEVIEW 28 WOLFSON 7

Ridgeview rolled past Wolfson in their season openers. Quarterback Max Monroe tossed three touchdown passes. Rasheed Baker caught a touchdown and intercepted a pass in the win over the Wolfpack.

BALDWIN 12 WESTSIDE 6 (3 OT)

Kevin Davis scored the game winning touchdown in three overtimes to defeat Westside. Baldwin led early when quarterback Bryce Tompkins hit Dejuan Malpress for a score. Yet Westside would tie the game in the third quarter as the game would eventually go to overtime. The Indians defense had a sack party led by Tyson McClendon who registered 7 sacks, Carl Nesmith tallied 3 sacks.

WEST NASSAU 7 YULEE 0

West Nassau improved to 2-0 on the season defeating rival Yulee 7-0. Jesse Rochay’s scored on a touchdown run, which proved to be the only score needed. West Nassau defeated Palatka last week 43-6. Yulee fell to 1-1 after defeating Fernandina last week. West Nassau has only yielded 6 points in two games and scored 50. Junior Conner Nobles plays offense and defense one of their leading tacklers and runs the football.

Quarterback Cam Miller has 6 touchdowns in two games including two on the ground versus Interlachen as they get their first win of the season.

VENICE 40 RAINES 6

Coming off a loss to IMG Academy last week, Venice wanted to get in the W column in the worst way. It showed as five different players scored for the Indians. Raines, playing their first game of the season seemed like a team going the wrong way through a revolving door. 21 penalties by the Vikings killed their momentum in the game. The Vikings defense also had a time trying to stop Venice Senior Steffan Johnson who rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Venice is one of the best teams in Florida and their schedule proves it with American Heritage, Lakeland, and Manatee coming up. Raines looks forward to Camden Co (Georgia) at home.

Baker County 49 Orange Park 0

The Wildcats are rolling once again, led by their rushing attack. Scooby Graham and Zane Mobly. They have outscored opponents 82-6. Next they face Ed White and their vaulted rushing attack.

WHITE 38 MENENDEZ 30

Five touchdowns on the ground led Ed White over Menendez. DeVaughn Patterson scored twice, and Jordan Lowery scored twice. Patterson also had an interception and led the team with 7 tackles. National champion coach Kenny Sanchez had his debut spoiled for Menendez (0-1). King Benford and Duane Graham will look to get it going next week. The Falcons look to rebound at Gainesville Eastside. Ed White(1-0) heads to Baker County (1-0)

ST. AUGUSTINE 49 MIDDLEBURG 0

St. Augustine(1-0) rushed for 345 yards on the ground, rolling right over Middleburg (0-1).Ty Baxter scored on a  25-yard touchdown run. Versatile quarterback Sammy Edwards also scored on the ground. The Jackets have new fire power that came over from Pedro Menendez this fall, that makes them extremely athletic in the backfield. St. Augustine will see if they can run harder than the power running Bolles team next week.Aaron Wynn versus Kade Frew. Middleburg hopes to fair better against undefeated Hawthorne (2-0).

Mandarin 14 Atlantic Coast 0

Tre Lawrence tossed a touchdown pass to Jaylen Smith in their victory over Atlantic Coast. Smith finished with 122 yards and a touchdown. It was a duel of the receivers as Atlantic Coast wide receiver Patrick Bryant caught 3 balls for 75 yards. Smith and his team got the best of the Stingrays once again in this southside rivalry.

Atlantic Coast at Parker 9/18

Fleming Island defeated Palatka 29-7 to begin their regular season where they left off, undefeated. TK Kokack, Timothy Thomas and Sam Singleton will turn their sights to Myles Montgomery and Fletcher. 24-13 was the score last year
