Bolles And Bartram Pull Away Late; Remain Undefeated

Two of the best teams in the area faced potential “trap” games in week two after big wins against rivals in week one. Bartram Trail (2-0), fresh off their 50-40 victory over Creekside faced Mandarin (1-1) who who riding high after their 14-0 win over Atlantic Coast. Bolles on the other hand defeated Trinity 36-12, and faced a St Augustine team in week 2 who blanked Middleburg last week 49-0. Both games saw their teams pull away late to capture the victory.

For Bolles, Running back Kade Frew rushed for three touchdowns (4yds ,65yds 29yds). The last run coming with 3:26 in the 4th quarter to give Bolles a 33-23 advantage.

St. Augustine jumped out first when quarterback Sammy Edwards threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Ty Baxter giving St. Augustine a 7-0 lead over Bolles. St. Augustine took a 14-0 lead in the second quarter and led late in the second half before Bolles came storming back.

Bartram Trail’s game started a little different as Quarterback Santino Marucci hit Aaron Zawacki for a touchdown to give the Bears an early 6-0 lead. However Mandarin would match the score and get even more from a touchdown pass connection by Tre Lawrence to Jaylin Smith to tie the game at 6-6.

Mandarin’s impressive defense would get in on the action when Isaiah Sparrow picked off a pass for six the other way. His interception gave Mandarin a 13-6 lead in the second quarter.

Bartram would tie the game on a pass from Marucci to Eli Sutherland on a 33-yard touchdown, set up by a big kickoff return by Eric Weatherly. Tied 13-13, special teams made the difference as Bartram kicker David Kemp hit a 42-yard field goal and a 51-yard field goal to give Bartram a 19-13 lead late in the second half.

Finally, on 4th and goal Mandarin attempted to tie the game when Lawrence was picked off by Bartram’s Kevin Weemhoff who too it 97-yards for a pick 6 to seal the game. Bartram would win the game 26-13.

Bolles looks to tackle Creekside (1-1) which is sure to be a high scoring affair. While Bartram gets ready for their rival St. Augustine.
