Gamble Rogers Middle School defeated Swiss Point Middle School 40-6, to claim the SJMSAA Division 3A Region 2 Championship. At 5-0, Gamble Rogers and Head Coach Matt Potack posses the best record in the SJMSAA league, and are one of only two undefeated teams left on the season.
The Stingrays used a mixture of offense, defense and special teams to overtake the Raiders. Jake Fisher and Bryce Potak had great kickoffs on special teams creating awesome field position for the team. As it has been all season, running-back Jospeh Soto rushed for 100 yards. Yet this time he found the end-zone on defense, scoring one touchdown off an interception return.
Gage Anderson had 180 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns in the game. He followed the blocking of his offensive line who dominated on the day led by Liam Malloy. Quarterback Brooks Cornelison had over 80 yards passing in the game and hooked up with Trenton Jones who had 4 catches for 52 yards scoring a touchdown. Jones also contributed to a suffocating defense that was on full display against Swiss, as he also grabbed an interception.
Arthur Lewis had an interception as well, returning it for a touchdown. The defensive front applied constant pressure led by Ben Johnson, Sammy Blythe and Raymond Evans. Jake Davis, Maddoxx Lehman and Kyle traydon all had sacks in the game.
Next up for Gamble is a rematch with Murray (2-3) . Swiss Point (0-5) takes on Landrum (4-1).
