Sandalwood Remains Undefeated; Slides By Raines

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — What looked like it was going to be a shut out turned out to be an exciting thriller with under a minute to play in the game. But the Sandalwood Saints (4-0) got the win on Senior Night by defeating the Raines Vikings (1-4) 17-8.

Halfway through the first quarter, Sandalwood struck first with the touchdown from junior quarterback Chris Calhoun to put the Saints up 6-0. This would be the only touchdown scored throughout the first three quarters of the game.

Fast forward to the fourth quarter, Branden Jennings senior linebacker made a great defensive play. He chased Raines quarterback, Tyrese Smith into the end zone. This resulted in his first safety of the night. The Saints were now up 8-0 with 11 minutes to go in the game. This began the Saints 9-0 fourth quarter run.

With 7 minutes to play Calhoun scored his second touchdown of the night to help put the Saints up 15-0. Jennings quickly responded with his second safety of the night. The Saints now led 17-0 and were holding on until there were 37 seconds left in the ball game.

Raines junior quarterback Carleton Butler rushed into the end zone for the touchdown. The Vikings then scored the 2 point conversion with a catch from junior wide receiver Quincy Burroughs. But this wasn’t enough as the Vikings fell to the Saints 17-8.

You can catch Sandalwood in action next Friday. They travel to Ocala, Florida to play Trinity Catholic. Kick-off is at 7pm. Raines returns back home to welcome the Ribault Trojans on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is at 2pm.
