Jacksonville Fl- It was a frightful night for the Trinity defense, as they chased after Raines quarterback Carleton Butler Jr, hurrying and sacking him several times en-route to a shutout homecoming victory on Halloween eve.
After forcing a 3 and out on defense, Trinity went to work on offense utilizing Kaleb Killian on several plays. Killian caught a pass from Jacory Jordan for a first down. He then took an end around into the red-zone setting up a potential score for Trinity.
However, Raines would hold on defense, making a great tackle on 4th down to prevent the score. Raines defense would harass Trinity in the first quarter, registering 4 sacks in the first half.
Trinity would get on the board when Treyaun Webb took the hand off and sprinted around the left end for a 26-yard touchdown, hurdling a defender with ease as Trinity took a 7-0 lead.
Trinity’s defense would hold Raines scoreless in the first half thanks to solid tackling and opportunistic pays. Trinity’s Christian Ellis would scoop up a fumbled snap by Raines to thwart a Viking’s second quarter drive. Ellis has forced four turnovers in four games for the Conquerors.
Yet the Vikings defense continued to swarm, making it impossible for Trinity to advance. The first half would end with a score of 7-0.
The second half saw Trinity’s offense come to life when JaCory Jordan hit Marcus Burke for a 38-yard pass to the 1-yard line. Burke ( Florida Commit) returned from an injury early in the season, yet he’d exit and would not return for the rest of the second half.
One play later, Kaleb Killian would plow into the end zone for a touchdown, giving Trinity a 14-0 lead in the 3rd quarter. Killian, who missed the first three games of the season rehabbing an injury, saw the end-zone for the first time this year.
The rest of the quarter saw Trinity miss a long field goal, and defenses continue to trade sacks and apply pressure. For Trinity, the pressure applied by Johnathan Goddard, Niles Johnson, Deon Briggs and company forced Butler to scramble and toss errant throws. One of those throws landed in the hands of Maryland commit Corey Coley Jr for an interception, his second on the year.
The fourth quarter saw more Trinity defense as they racked up sacks and pressures against Raines. Lucius Lattimore’s sack took any wind in the sails that the Vikings might’ve had on offense.
Trinity closed out there scoring on offense when Jordan hit Killian on a come back. The play then set up a back shoulder throw to Fred Highsmith from Jordan for a 10-yard touchdown. Trinity completed the shutout 21-0 on Halloween eve.
For Trinity (6-1), they’ve won six games in a row since losing their season opener to Bolles. Raines became the latest victim to the horror show that is the Trinity defense. The unit has only yielded two touchdowns in the last twenty quarters, as Raines was shutout for the first time all season. Trinity concludes their regular season next Thursday at Ribault.
After starting the season off slow, Raines (3-5) had reeled off two wins in a row. Although their defense played well, they suffered their fifth loss of the season. Raines closes their regular season out at home against Bartram Trail (7-1) next week.
