Harvest Community Gathers A Win Over St. Johns Country Day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It was Senior Night for the St. Johns Country Day Spartans (1-4). They took on the Harvest Community High School Warriors (3-3) in a tough battle. The Warriors would end up coming out on top 22-20.

The Warriors wasted no time getting into their offensive groove. Sophomore QB Dante Senchuk, found sophomore WR/CB Nathan Stricklin wide open running down the middle of the field for a touchdown to put the Warriors up 6-0.

Halfway through the first quarter the Warriors struck again. This time it was a 53 yard touchdown from junior RB/DT Mylan Powers. The Warriors then completed a 2 point conversion opportunity to go up 14-0.

The Spartans began to wake up after three big defensive plays from senior Vincent “Deuce” Williams. With 2 minutes to play in the first quarter, Williams got an interception and broke through 2 tackle attempts from the Warriors all the way to the end zone. The score after one, 14-6.

The lone touchdown and highlight of the second quarter came from the Spartans. The snap was thrown over the head of senior QB Gavin Russell but he collected it and threw it deep to Williams who was surrounded by two Harvest players.

Williams broke free and ran in for the touchdown. Senior Landon Brafford completed the 2 point conversion. The halftime score was tied at 14.

Quarter three showed great defense from both sides. Each team worked hard to hold the other scoreless and it seemed as if it would be done until there were 10 seconds left in the third. Stricklin caught a 27 yard pass and muscled his way in for the touchdown as two St Johns players tried to bring him down. The third quarter ended with a score of 22-14 Harvest.

In the final quarter, the Spartans were able to hold the Warriors scoreless. The Spartans ended up scoring with 2:03 left to play. Brafford caught the pass and ran in for a touchdown. The 2 point conversion was no good. This led to the final score, of the last game of the season for both teams, being 22-20.

Both coaching staffs are proud of their squads for the efforts they put in all season long. They wish nothing but the best for their senior class.
