Macclenny Fl- Usually when a team scores in all three phases of the game, offense, defense, and special teams, they’re hard to beat. Baker County Middle School proved that to be true on Tuesday night against Oakleaf Junior High in the NEFAC Middle School Football Championship game.
However, the game did not start so hot for Baker County as Oakleaf’s defense delivered the first shot. The Jacket’s forced a fumble to prevent a long gain in the first quarter, as both teams adjusted to one another. That didn’t last long for Baker County.
A punt return by Gavin Mosley would start the onslaught of dominance for the Bobcats. The special teams play would put Baker County up 7-0 as the end of the first quarter approached.
Tough running from duo Ke’Nais Williams and Davion Dean all night, helped establish a bruising run game by Baker County Middle. All of their touchdowns, minus the ones from their defense would come from that punishing rushing attack.
Davion Dean’s performance on the night included two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown and two rushing touchdowns on the night.
Baker County’s defense would stifle Oakleaf, a team used to utilizing their dynamic rushing attack. The Bobcat’s defense forced turnovers all night, including this fumble recovery that led to a score.
Several players got in on the action for Baker County who seemed to be energized by their home crowd. For Oakleaf, many of them had not played in front of a large crowd before, a decisive home field advantage for Baker County.
The turnover battle is paramount in the game of football. Not only did Baker County win the battle, but they won the war by punishing Oakleaf on both sides on the ball. The Bobcats athletes played both ways and were equally as affective on both sides of the ball.
Winning the game 36-0 was just another thing to add to a list of accomplishments to a team that was undefeated and has only given three touchdowns the whole year according to head Coach Kenneth Rodgers.
“This team is special, teams like this only come around once in a lifetime” were the sentiments of head Coach Kenneth Rodgers about his team’s dominant performance. They finished the season undefeated to be crowned champions of the NEFAC brining the trophy to Baker County.
