High School Football Week #9 and Playoff Recap

The playoffs began for many teams this past week as win or go home scenarios were at pay. Other teams closed out their regular seasons in preparation for playoff games this week and next week. Check out the High School Football recap below.

Westside 32 Yulee 7

Kaloun Walker scored the first touchdown of the game for Westside, taking a screen pass from Quarterback Jordan Campbell to the house. as the Wolverines went on to defeat Yulee in their Class 5A Region 1 first round playoff game.

Antwon McCrae showed why he’s one of the most dynamic players in the area with a touchdown and an interception in the contest. Westside’s defense would secure a safety on a bad snap as the Wolverines finished off the Hornets 32-7.

Westside advances to the next round of the Class 5A State playoffs to face Raines who received a bye in the first round. Raines defeated Westside last year in the playoffs 52-20.

Bartram Trail 42 Raines 26

Raines jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Carleton Butler Jr kept the zone read and raced around the right side for a Viking touchdown at home in the “Graveyard”. However it would be Bartram to play the grim reaper, burying the Vikings.

Trinity 29 Ribault 6

Treyaun Webb rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown (11.7 ypc) against Ribault as the Conquerors made short work of the Trojans.

Ja’Cory Jordan passed to 199 yards , tossed a touchdown and ran for another as the talented senior quarterback continues to lead an offense operating without it’s best player.

Ribault got some steam from their playmaker Martranius Mack. The senior got into the end-zone versus Trinity’s defense, being one of only three players in the state who’ve been able to do that in the last six games. (Cale Zarah, Lee; Jaylen Smith, Mandarin).

Trinity’s defense continued it’s dominance by only giving up 6 points, making it six straight opponents in which Trinity has only given up seven points or less.

Trinity (7-1) will now travel to Baldwin (8-0) in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs, after both teams received byes in the first round.

Orlando Christian Prep 40 Christ’s Church 21

Christ’s Church fell to Orlando Christian Prep 40-21 in the first round of the Florida Sunshine State Football Playoffs. The Eagles finished their regular season undefeated (6-0), and exit the playoffs having made it five consecutive seasons.

Episcopal 42 Wolfson 7

Running-back Ershod Jasey was a man possessed as he scored seemingly from every area of the field in Episcopal’s first round playoff win against Wolfson.

Jasey scored three touchdowns in the game including the first tow of the contest to give the Eagles a lead to which they’d never relinquish.

Episcopal’s offense clicked on all cylinders with Quarterback Tucker Tomberlin who found several receivers in the passing game. CJ Tremble caught the first touchdown pass of the game after a Kirk Reed interception.

He hit his tight end Nick Elksnis (Florida commit) after that as Episcopal hung 28 points in the first half on Wolfson. They’d go on to defeat the Wolfpack to advance to the second round of the Class 3A State playoffs.

Episcopal (5-2) now takes on Interlachen (5-4) this Friday 11/13/20.

Creekside 26 Ponte Vedra 9

Creekside finished the 2020 regular season at 5-3, after defeating Ponte Vedra 26-9. It’s Creekside’s best finish since 2011 ( 7-3). Preston Strope scored twice on the ground, first on a 5-yard touchdown run putting Creekside up 9-0 early on.

Strope would get score again on a 2 yard touchdown run as Creekside cruised to a 26-9 victory. With quarterback Daniel Plummer III, wide receiver Jack Goodrich, and running-back Preston Strope, the Knights head to the playoffs able to score lots of points.

Quarterback Daniel Plummer III, Creekside

It’s going to be a Class 7A playoff rematch between Creekside and Buchholz (6-1), a game that saw the Bobcats defeat the Knights 49-27 on October 30th this year.

Ponte Vedra (5-4) heads to Columbia (2-5) to face a team that they lost to 14-7 last year in a first round home playoff game. Columbia defeated Englewood in their first round Class 6A playoff matchup 41-7.

Ed White 34 Bishop Kenny 31

Ed White defeated Bishop Kenny in the Class 5A playoff first round 34-31. Jaison Patterson rushed for 398 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Defensive back Dezmond Ruise led the team with 16 tackles, and Jevan Rivers was second with 13 tackles on the night.

After Patterson put White up early on a touchdown run, Bishop Kenny took a 24-20 lead going into halftime when James Resar went 55 yards for a touchdown and Jackson Burnett added a touchdown.

After Reser hit Burnnett for a touchdown, Bishop Kenny made several plays to take a 31-28 lead in fourth quarter. However Patterson would run his team to victory scoring the go ahead touchdown and give them a 34-31 lead.

Bishop Kenny had a chance to tie the game, but missed a field goal in the closing second of the game.

Ed White (5-4) now hosts Rickards (4-1) in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs. Rickards received a bye in round one.
