Jacksonville Fl- It was the first playoff game Jackson had played since 2010. A program in the midst of a decade long rebuild, saw its best season since 2010 at 4-4. Yet not even a new regime could change the course of the game Friday night, as FSU dominated from the opening whistle to defeated Jackson 42-6.
Florida High (FSU) would score 42 unanswered points in the contest, 35 of which came in the first half alone. It began with a Tre Donaldson to George Henderson touchdown pass early in the first quarter.
Defense would take center stage next as Kei’arryien Green would scoop and score for FSU giving them a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
FSU showcased many playmakers on the night as running-back Dohntay Williams scored next. Followed by another touchdown pass from Donaldson to Brooks Hickman for a touchdown.
Donaldson, who has several D1 offers for football and basketball was offered by Florida State football on the bus ride to the game against Jackson. Ironically, Donaldson’s mother played softball at Florida State, so it may have been extra motivation by the talented multi sport athlete to put on a show for mom’s alma matar.
The show would go on as Donovan Barnes would score for FSU and secure an interception in their 42-6 victory over Jackson.
For Jackson, there were several bright spots this season despite their frustrating loss at home. Quarterback Jalen Sonnier (JR) was one of the leading passers in the city, along with play makers like Rickie Shaw on offense and Grayson Howard on defense at linebacker. Coach Foy and company look to bring back a talented group next year.
Florida State University (9-0) defeated Walton 64-7 in their play-in game. After defeating Jackson 42-7 in their quarterfinal contest, they now look forward to face Pensacola Catholic (4-3) in the regional semifinals next Friday.
