Plant City FL- The 2020 UYFL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS were decided this weekend and the 8u MOT Cowboys brought back the championship Jacksonville. The Cowboys defeated the GTM Hurricanes (Gainesville FL) 20-0 to bring home the title.
Running back Ricky Rogers scored all three touchdowns in the championship game. The speedster dazzled the crowd in attendance winning the All American Player of the tournament award.
Rogers was accompanied by Jehan Price. Affectionately known as “chicken” Price tossed a touchdown in the game to Rogers. Like the chicken in Rocky II, the Hurricane defense was unable to keep up with the playmakers for the Cowboys. Jabril Hickson “The Minister” blessed the field with his play in the championship game as well.
On defense, the line created havoc all game. John Walby was a force all week at nationals terrorizing every team’s offenses. Omad Johnson and Johnny Green were two way players who made major impacts on both sides of the ball. It’s the type of effort that makes for a coach’s dream, and for Head Coach Ivory Durham, it was a dream come true for he and his staff.
It was a memorable season for the team in more ways than one. In their first game in the national tournament, they played the always tough Shacker Raiders. In that overtime game, the team needed a score to keep their championship season alive. The offensive line pathed the way for Ricky Rogers to score the winning touchdown.
For the Rogers household, it could be a special week as Ricky’s older brother freshman running back Darnell Rogers is looking to win a state championship with Trinity Christian on Wednesday.
It might be two championships in the same week for the same family, yet for the Durhams, this makes 10 championships for them and the M.O.T family. Congratulations to M.O.T on their 2020 8U UYFL Championship!
